Coiba Island is the largest island off the Pacific coast of the Panamanian province of Veraguas. It is located about twenty kilometers from the southern coast of the Panamanian province of Veraguas, in the Gulf of Chiriqui. It also includes a forty islets scattered.
The island is about 19 km wide and 40 km long, it is hilly and peaks at 300 or 400 meters. It is covered with a thick jungle and wildlife hosts a semi-endemic part.
Coiba Island is a huge nature reserve which owes its former status in prison. It is home to Coiba National Park and its Special Zone of Marine Protection registered since 2005 as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Between mid-August and mid-December, humpback whales come to put down. The warm, shallow island and its islands waters are also home to a population of turtles, sharks, dolphins and a large coral reef.
