How much does a cruise in the Norwegian fjords cost?

Norway and its fjords are a popular destination in Europe for a cruise in the midst of nature. That said, the price of all-inclusive cruises in the fjords amounts to several thousand euros, which represents a significant investment.

In this article, I explain how much a cruise departure in the Norwegian fjords costs by relying on 4 key factors for the price of your cruise: the type of cabin chosen, the season of departure, dynamic pricing and the price of your round-trip flight.

Different types of cabins at different costs

During your search to find the best cruise in the fjords of Norway, 3 main categories of cabin aboard the ship of the company you have chosen will be available to you:

• interior cabins (without windows or portholes)
• exterior cabins (higher than interior cabins, with windows)
• suites / deluxe cabins (larger, more luxurious, better equipped)

More or less expensive seasons

If you're wondering when to see the fjords in Norway, note that we generally distinguish 4 departure periods, each of which will influence the price of your all-inclusive cruise aboard the ship of the chosen company:

• the summer season, from June to August (prices are the most expensive, but temperatures are at their peak with temperatures reaching up to 30°C according to VisitNorway, which compensates for the usual coolness of the country and Northern Europe)
• the autumn season, from September to November (prices are lower with a median price of €5,882 for an exterior cabin from the analyzed cruises versus €8,024 in summer, but this is not the season when you will find the most activities to do in Northern Europe -nautical activities limited by weather for example- , and the country's temperatures cool as winter approaches)
• the winter season, from December to February (prices are significantly lower than summer with a median price of €5,474 for an exterior cabin from the analyzed cruises versus €8,024 in summer, and there are many available activities during this period, both on board and outdoors, but the demand for departures is very specific, for the northern lights in winter, a star attraction of the country and Northern Europe)
• the spring season, from March to May (prices are even lower with a median price of €5,388 for an exterior cabin from the analyzed cruises, and the nature of the fjords is in bloom according to VisitNorway, but the country's temperatures especially in the north are still cool)

Dynamic pricing: a central point

What's hidden behind this somewhat complex term is simply the fact that the earlier you book your all-inclusive cabin cruise in the Norwegian fjords, the cheaper it will be!

Indeed, to price their cabins aboard their ship before departure, each cruise company uses several data points, one of which is the occupancy level of their ship. In short, the closer your booking date is to the departure date, the more expensive your ticket will be.

In general, our destination experts recommend (based on the analysis of our 2023-2024 bookings) booking your cabin at the latest 6 months in advance with the cruise company, for autumn, winter and early spring. It's different if you want to travel to the fjords in Norway in summer, where we recommend 8 months before your departure. You can go up to 10 months in advance, but beyond that, it's a little too early for organizing your all-inclusive cruise aboard one of the ships of a partner company.
