Skopelos is a mountainous island (highest point: Mount Delphi, 681 meters), the climate is characterized by mild, rainy winters (snow is rare and does not fall each year) and hot, sunny summers. The economy of the island, whose population tripled during the summer months, is completely dependent on tourism.
Skopelos is also the name of the island's capital and main port. The town of Skopelos alone has more than 3,000 inhabitants on 4700 that includes the entire island (4,696 in the last census of 2001).
