Anzio is an Italian town of about 55,400 inhabitants, situated in the province of Rome in Lazio.
It is a seaside resort known for its harbor fishing tourism.
It is also a departure point for ferries and hydroplanes to the Pontine Islands of Ponza, Palmarola and Ventotene.
Anzio is also known as the site of the landing of Allied forces (Operation Shingle) and the battle of four months that followed (Campaign Anzio) during World War II. The Battle of Anzio is represented in the films The Wall Pink Floyd and Lo Sbarco di Anzio Edward Dmytryk.
Anzio is also the birthplace of the emperors Caligula and Nero (the city was then called Antium).
