River cruises on the Thames

Last updated on 8 April 2025

346 km long, the Thames is England's main river, linking the capital London to the North Sea. Considered one of the most beautiful waterways in the world, the Thames offers you the opportunity to discover the magnificent kingdom of England through its monuments, its old towns and its natural environment.

A magical river

As you travel along the Thames, on the side of the boat, you will discover the beauty of the English landscape. A landscape characterized by open meadows, villages with 14th-century houses and birds that have made the river their home, such as kingfishers and mute swans.

A yacht charter on the Thames also offers you the chance to contemplate England's most beautiful monuments, including Windsor Castle, one of the residences of the royal family. You will be dazzled by the Gothic architecture of this medieval fortress dating from the 11th century.

When you visit London, also consider tasting the city's culinary specialties such as the famous Fisherman's Pie made with salmon, shrimp, potatoes, parsley and cream sauce.. Also take part in the Totally Thames event that takes place in the capital in September. You will enjoy the thirty days of festivities with around a hundred river-related events and exhibitions.

Tourism combining nature and culture

From Gloucestershire in the west to London in the east, make wonderful discoveries and unearth the treasures that embellish the south of England. For this, plan a yacht charter on the Thames.

In Gloucestershire, make sure you take a photo of the medieval Berkeley Castle, dating from 1153 and steeped in the rich history of Great Britain. Then visit Tewkesbury Abbey to appreciate the city's sophisticated architecture. Finally, for fun and to enjoy nature, head for Cotswold Country Park. On the program: swimming, pedalos, paddleboards and kayaks.

Continue your journey to the city of Oxford, famous for its prestigious university. Budding historians will be delighted to visit this oldest university in the English-speaking world before taking a tour of Christ Church. The latter, located within the estate, was used as the setting for the Hogwarts hall in the movie Harry Potter.

In Oxfordshire, don't miss Blenheim Palace, considered an architectural masterpiece of the 18th century. The baroque palace was the birthplace of Winston Churchill. Round off your visit to the city of Oxford by heading to its famous Ashmolean Museum.

From Reading to London

The next stop is the town of Reading, with a visit to the Abbey Quarter and the Museum of Greek Archaeology. The museum has one of the largest collections of ceramics in England. Also take a short break at the Scope art gallery, where magnificent contemporary works are on display. On the Thames, close to the city, you can have fun rowing.

Finish your boat trip in style in the enchanting city of London. There is so much to see here! Make sure you visit the very famous British Museum, the National Gallery and the Southbank Center. Tower Bridge, the Eye of London and Buckingham Palace are also well worth a visit.
