Monohull sailboat charter

Last updated on 8 April 2025

Do you feel like setting sail in the open sea on the side of a beautiful sailing boat? Whether for a week or a month, find out how easy it is to rent a boat with Filovent. Booking a boat has never been so simple, thanks to this simple and intuitive website.

Depending on the number of people you want to be and your sailing program, our wide range of sailboats will satisfy your desires. A small sailboat offers the advantage of flexibility, it can be skippered by one person and maneuvering on board is easier. On the other hand, opt for a large sailboat if you are looking for more comfort and space, as these are better suited to holidays and relaxing and have more living space on board. However, these ships are more difficult to handle due to their size, which is why Filovent offers you the option of a skipper for your sailboat charter. All you have to do is find the sailboat that suits your budget and your desires!

A wide choice of destinations

Do you feel like getting out in the open sea and escaping the daily routine? Say no more, a sailboat charter is the solution. Whether you are a couple, with family or friends, we have what you need!

Filovent offers its customers a wide range of destinations for vacationing aboard your sailboat. Head to the South of France, near Marseille, let yourself be tempted by the French Riviera and discover wild coves inaccessible by foot as well as deserted beaches with turquoise waters. Corsica is a very good compromise for vacationers who want to stay in France but also get away from it all. With its kilometers of coastline, you can make the most of your vacation by sailing without worrying about where to stay.

A sailboat charter is also an opportunity to discover neighboring countries in a way you would never have imagined: Greece and Croatia are particularly popular with boaters. Want to go to the other end of the world? Nothing is stopping you from setting sail for more exotic destinations in The Caribbean or even the Bahamas.

The diversity of destinations offered by Filovent will enable you to find the sailboat that suits your cruising desires.

The different types of sailboats

Nowadays, there are many different types of sailboats. Each one meets a different need and is adapted to the various possible navigation programs. To help you understand, Filovent presents the different types of sailboats that you might come across on the water.

Cruising yachts

Cruising yachts, or "charters", are pleasure craft that meet criteria for comfort and space. They are often used by friends or families and are perfectly suited to beginner sailors on their first cruise.

Although all cruising yachts are more than 6 meters long, each one is different from the others due to their many physical and technical characteristics. Some have a wooden hull, others are made of plastic, aluminum or composite wood. In addition, they can have a long keel with a bulbous bow or a short keel with winged fins.

1. Small sailing boats

A sailboat is considered "small" when it is less than 8 meters long. They were very popular in the 80s because of their many advantages. They are more affordable and cost less to maintain than traditional sailboats. In addition, they can be transported by trailer given their small size.

Small sailboats are in high demand for simple, low-budget cruises, and the larger ones even have two double berths. They are equipped with a centerboard or a lifting keel depending on the model, which allows them to sneak in wherever they want and even approach beaches.

2. The promenade decks for fishing

Long considered to be poor and from another era, the promenade deck for fishing sailboats are a good compromise! Ideal for people who live close to the sea and want to go out in the open sea from time to time. Solid and comfortable, the promenade deck for fishing is pleasant and easy to steer.

Promenade decks for fishing were launched in the 70s to meet the needs of novice sailors who simply wanted to sail and take the opportunity to fish. Unfortunately, the construction of this type of sailboat ended in the early 90s, but some lucky people can still enjoy them thanks to the Evasion models from Bénéteau and Fifty from Kirié.

3. Houseboats

Any sailboat between 8 and 18 meters long is considered a liveaboard sailboat. More comfortable than small sailboats, they are perfectly suited for a week-long or longer cruise. Whether you want to sail with your family on the Atlantic coast or with friends in the Caribbean, this type of sailboat will satisfy you. They are adaptable and suitable for all types of programs.

4. Long-distance sailing boats

Although cabin cruisers can be adapted to suit all kinds of requirements, blue water cruisers are in a category of their own. It is difficult to define what a "blue water cruiser" is, but boats in this category have their own characteristics. They are often heavier and made of aluminum, and they focus entirely on safety, even if it means sacrificing a little performance. Easily recognizable by their solar panels, they are even more practical and comfortable than other types of sailboat. So, as you can see, long-distance cruising sailboats are made for long, safe trips with family or friends, but are not pitched for the Vendée Globe.

Racing yachts

High-performance racing yachts are narrower and more streamlined. Designed for speed, they are used in regattas and races such as the America's Cup and the Volvo Ocean Race. Unlike cruising yachts, racing yachts are equipped with a double rudder blade with a pivoting keel and bulbous bow, as well as a double helm. In addition, comfort on board is lessened since these sailboats are designed with technical characteristics in mind. Over the years, real competition machines have been created, which has helped enhance the world of competitive sailing.

Cruising racing yachts

Halfway between cruising yachts and racing yachts, a kind of in-between has emerged: cruising racing yachts. They were created to be able to take part in races while combining the comfort offered by cruising yachts. The JPK 10.30 is a perfect example of this, and was nominated forthe European Yacht of the Year 2020 in the cruiser-racer category, a great comeback for one of the smallest European shipyards. The JPK 10.30 perfectly meets the criteria for cruiser-racers thanks to its versatility. Whether you are sailing alone, with a partner or with a crew, it will offer you comfort in all circumstances for a fast cruise.

FAQ: Filovent has the answer!

WHY RENT A SAILBOAT?

A monohull, unlike a catamaran, has only one hull, as its name suggests. The sensations on the side of the boat are therefore very different and much closer to the water. On a sailboat, the pressure of the wind on the sails causes the boat to heel at all sailing trim levels. This sensation, specific to monohull sailboats, is an essential part of sailing and offers a unique experience.

If you are more into sailing than anchorages, you will have understood that a sailboat is made for you! Sailing enthusiasts will opt for the maneuverability and power of the sailboat, the maneuvers on board are more varied and offer a real experience at sea. On the other hand, from an aesthetic point of view, the design of the sailboat and its unique hull gives it a sleek profile and elegant sailing trim. Its architecture also makes it more resistant to difficult sailing conditions: it is stronger and more difficult to capsize.

Filovent also offers sailboat charters with a skipper if you do not have sufficient nautical experience to sail the boat on your own. The skipper will be in charge of maneuvering the boat from the side of the boat and will help you learn how to sail. The professional skippers that we provide can also help you plan your sailing itinerary by recommending anchorages and ports of call that are not to be missed during your cruise!

WHICH SAILBOAT SHOULD YOU RENT?

Sailboat charter is often less expensive than catamaran charter, so if you have a small budget for your next vacation, opt for sailboats. Many shipowners offer economical ranges, accessible to the general public and to beginners who want to discover their first sensations of sailing. Thus, your criteria such as its size, its use, the number of people on board... have a considerable impact on the choice of your sailboat. Don't hesitate to request a quote, 100% personalized, from our specialized advisors to find out more.

WHO ARE THE LEADING SAILBOAT MANUFACTURERS?

France is the world's second largest manufacturer of pleasure boats, behind the United States, and the largest in Europe. It is also the world's largest producer of sailboats with shipyards such as Beneteau, Jeanneau, Dufour and Kirié.

Yacht charter has given a major boost to the growth of the nautical industry. In 2019, the world market leader, Beneteau, saw its turnover increase by more than 30% compared to the previous year, which represented close to 130 million USD in additional turnover.

Dufour, a member of the Fountaine Pajot group, the number two in the nautical industry in France, is also taking the opportunity to rejuvenate its customer base. Faced with this new trend, shipyards have had to adapt by creating new versions of sailboats tailored to the specific needs of charter. Innovation is therefore very important to continue boosting the sector, and Fountaine Pajot has invested no less than USD 26 million to keep pace with intensive production.

HOW MUCH DOES A SAILBOAT CHARTER COST?

Filovent offers a wide range of sailboats for charter in many destinations that meet all travel needs and wishes in terms of size, number of cabins, brand of sailboat and capacity. Prices vary according to these criteria, but also according to the season of the charter and the destination. Prices start at USD450 per week and can go up to USD30,000.

Sailboat charter with Filovent: feedback

A sailboat charter is an excellent choice if you want to travel from island to island. With a spacious cockpit, comfortable cabins and living area, and sometimes a stern skirt to take advantage of the anchorages, a sailboat guarantees a pleasant sailing experience! Boats with one hull are particularly well suited to windy sailing programs: equipped with a mainsail, a gennaker and sometimes a spinnaker (on request), maneuvers are made easier by the ergonomics of the side of the boat. Enjoy the pleasure of dropping anchor in corners of paradise and taking advantage of magnificent anchorages in the most beautiful destinations!

In the Mediterranean and Corsica, our loyal customers particularly appreciate the Dufour 382. This monohull belongs to the Grand Large range of sailing boats designed for travel. Comfortable whatever the sailing conditions, its main asset is its living area with a fully modular table that can be adapted to suit your needs. The perfect place for meals with family or friends.

In Croatia, Greece and The Caribbean, the Sun Odyssey 36i is our customers' favorite. This cruising sailboat owes its reputation to its optimal sail plan, which allows you to enjoy the pleasures of sailing in absolute comfort. Easy to maneuver thanks to its ergonomic helm station, it is highly regarded for both its technical and aesthetic qualities. Its spacious interior is equipped with large hull portholes that offer a pleasant view of the sea.
