Yacht charter Thailand

Last updated on 28 October 2024

Why rent a boat in Thailand?

Thailand is one of the top 4 destinations for spending the winter in the sun. A catamaran cruise in Thailand is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Here are a few reasons to travel to Thailand:

  • Discover the Thai seabed: with its vast coral reefs, the Thai seabed is teeming with different species of fish, sharks, rays, dolphins and sea turtles. Koh Tao is perfect for diving. It is home to one of the most beautiful coral reefs in Southeast Asia and is ideal for snorkeling. A sailboat charter in Phuket will allow you to admire the marine treasures of the Andaman Sea. You can set sail for the Similan Islands, Thailand's diving paradise, which has been a nature reserve since 1982.
  • Discover the most beautiful beaches at anchor, such as Koh Ngam, which means"Beautiful Island"in English, or Hat Chaweng beach onthe island of Koh Samui, from which you can admire a beautiful sunset.
  • Discover Thai cuisine: the charm of this country does not end at its coasts. Thai dishes are an integral part of the culture of the Land of Smiles! They include crispy rice noodles, stuffed dumplings and vegetables cooked with spices and herbs.
  • Take a honeymoon! Thailand is made for moorings alongside backpacker couples on a budget, looking for a mix ofadventure, a change of scenery and exotic beaches. Your honeymoon will strike a balance between activities of all kinds, tourism and rest.

Types of boats to rent in Thailand

Depending on your budget and your sailing plan, several types of boats are available:

  • A monohull sailboat charter is the most affordable option, perfect for those with sailing experience! Its size allows for easy access to coves and anchorages. Sailing on a monohull also offers unparalleled sensations, such as heeling over.
  • A catamaran charter is ideal for those seeking comfort and space on board. With its remarkable stability and generous space, the catamaran is the perfect alternative for a relaxing vacation, if your budget allows.
  • A motorboat charter is generally more economical, making it the ideal option for a day trip.

Services offered for your yacht charter in Thailand

Here are the different services we offer for renting a boat in Thailand:

  • Opting for a bareboat yacht charter is ideal if someone in the crew is experienced in navigation. You will enjoy the boat in complete privacy, which will enrich your cruise in Thailand with your friends or family.
  • Opting for a yacht charter with a skipper is the ideal alternative if no one in your group knows how to sail or if you are looking for a hassle-free vacation. The professional skipper will take care of navigation and, thanks to his local knowledge, will direct you to the best anchorages and restaurants.
  • Opting for a crewed yacht charter is common for luxury vessels over 20 meters. For a catamaran charter in Thailand measuring between 10 and 20 meters, this service is often offered as an extra. A standard crew consists of a captain, a cook and a hostess. They will devote themselves fully to your well-being to guarantee you an unforgettable cruise!
  • The cruise with individual cabin charter allows you to book a cabin on an elegant and friendly boat, in the company of other travelers. A professional crew manages the navigation, the preparation of meals and the service on board. It is the perfect solution for those who wish to travel as a couple or for those who do not have the budget to rent the entire boat.

If you are interested in chartering a yacht in Thailand, please don't hesitate to contact us directly to consult our rates. Costs can fluctuate considerably depending on the type of yacht. Lina, our specialist in high-end crews and boats, will be delighted to present you with our best offers.

We suggest you choose our cancellation insurance when you take out your yacht charter in Thailand. It offers protection to the whole crew, unlike personal cancellation insurance or that offered by your credit card, which generally only protects the holder.

We also recommend that our customers take out damage waiver insurance. Even the most experienced sailors are not completely sheltered from incidents at sea. With this insurance, you will be able to recover a large part of your deposit in the event of damage during navigation.

Where to sail in Thailand?

Thailand welcomes you to the Indochinese peninsula in Southeast Asia. You can access a yacht charter, sailboat charter and catamaran charter in Thailand from our bases in the Gulf of Thailand, or from Phuket, where three of our partners welcome you to discover the most beautiful islands of Thailand.

  • Phuket: This is a good point of departure due to its favorable and reliable climatic conditions. Set off to discover the small Thai islands, bathed in a setting of immaculate beaches, fabulous limestone peaks andauthentic fishing villages. In particular, you could include in your sailing itinerary to Phuket the magnificent Phang Nga Bay, which is sure to transport you to another world with its limestone peaks and lush vegetation. The bay is home to several national parks, with a large part of the area now protected. In AO Phang Nga National Park, you can admire James Bond Island, which has become famous since its appearance in one of the films of the saga.
  • The Koh Phi Phi Islands: the archipelagois a must-see, as the beauty of its limestone landscapes and seabed is widely recognized. Of the 6 islands in the archipelago, don't miss Koh Phi Phi Ley. While the island is renowned for the beauty of its landscapes, it is above all Maya Bay that has made it famous. This small enclosed enclave of turquoise water was the setting for the filming of Danny Boyle's movie The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Virginie Ledoyen.
  • Koh Chang: from the island of Koh Chang, Thailand's second largest island, you can sail in the northeast of the gulf. Nicknamedthe elephant island because of its shape, which resembles the animal's mast top, Koh Chang is a very unspoiled and authentic island. You can stroll through its fishing villages and, if you are up to it, explore the best-preserved tropical forest in Southeast Asia.
  • Koh Samui: if you are looking for peace and quiet, a yacht charter in Koh Samui is an excellent option. Located in the heart of the Gulf of Thailand, also known as the Gulf of Siam, the area has a multitude of anchorages and a limited number of charter boats. You will often be alone at the anchorage! Before or after setting off on the water, a visit to the Big Buddha temple is a must. From Koh Samui, don't miss the Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park. Accessible only by boat, this nature reserve is spread over 6 main islands and numerous islets. You can admire many exotic animals on land and in the water.
  • Koh Phangan: if you want to party, Koh Phangan is the place to go! Famous for its Full Moon Party, which attracts beach party lovers from all over the world. Back on the island of Koh Samui, you can also go to Chaweng, where there are many nightclubs and theme nights.

When to sail in Thailand?

In Thailand, sailing is pleasant all year round because it is a tropical destination! However, the best time to go is during the dry season, between November and April. There will be fewer rains, especially the torrential rains that occur during the green season from June to October. During the dry season, you can enjoy dry, sunny weather, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 30 degrees.

Here is an average of the temperatures encountered in recent years in Thailand:

TemperaturesJanFebAprMayJuneJulyAugSepOctNovDec
Air (°C)33°C33°34°36°35°34°33°33°33°33°33°32°
Sea water (°C)28°29°29°30°30°30°30°29°29°29°29°29°

As far as sailing conditions are concerned, the dry season is also the best time to go. Between November and April, the sea is relatively calm. On the other hand, during the rainy season, and particularly in July and August, there are undercurrents in the southwest and west of the island. From May to October, due to rougher than normal seas, the national parks to the northwest of Phuket (Similan, Surin, Bon, Tachai and the Mergui Archipelago) are closed.
