When to sail in the Seychelles?
There are two main seasons in the Seychelles. The cool season runs from May to October with temperatures ranging from 27°C to 30°C. This time of year is particularly favorable for sailing, with lighter winds and a very pleasant tropical climate. The prevailing wind, the southeast trade winds, blow at force 4 or 5, from 15 to 25 knots.
The wet season begins in December and ends in April. Rain is more frequent but the weather is generally very sunny. The Seychelles archipelago is located outside the cyclone zone and is therefore not affected by violent storms and thunderstorms like in The Caribbean. The trade winds blow from the northwest at force 3, 8 to 12 knots.
I recommend that you go sailing in the Seychelles during the months of transition between the wet season and the cool season (October, November, April and May). These are the best months to go sailing there because the rains are infrequent, the temperature is good and the prices are lower!
Bathers can enjoy water temperatures of between 26°C and 30°C all year round. When swimming, beware of the strong currents outside the lagoons!
Here is an average of the temperatures encountered in recent years in the Seychelles:

Our advice for a successful yacht charter in the Seychelles:
- Familiarize yourself with local regulations: Before embarking on your sailboat charter, make sure you are familiar with the regulations in force in the region in terms of navigation zones, anchorages or protected areas.
- Documents and formalities: If you are the skipper of the boat, make sure you have a boat license to present. In addition, we strongly advise you to take out damage waiver insurance even if you hire a skipper: in the event of damage to the boat, you are directly responsible, and damage waiver protects you from any involuntary damage.
- What are the departure bases for sailing in the Seychelles? Your choice of departure base will depend on the sailing area you want to discover, but also on the duration of your cruise. It is quite possible to fully discover both areas in two weeks. Eden Island Marina is a very modern base located on an artificial island on the east coast of Mahé, between the airport and the island's capital, Victoria. Entirely man-made, you will find all the facilities and equipment you need: water, electricity, sanitary facilities, supermarkets, etc. Choose to leave from Mahé, as did the majority of our customers in 2022 (63%). Baie Sainte-Anne in the south of the island of Praslin is certainly less modern than Mahé, but remains the favorite choice of our customers in 2021 (54%). It is ideally located a few miles from the most beautiful islands!
