Norway: a journey to the heart of the fjords
When to go?
Norway is the perfect country for cruises, believe me! You can generally go there all year round, but the best time to go to Norway is from July to August to enjoy the midnight sun or from the end of November to January to admire the Northern Lights and maybe even a polar bear on its ice floe if you're lucky... Here is a table that lists the average temperatures of different cities in Norway to cover the entire country.

The most beautiful places to discover
- Bergen: Our shortlist city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and well worth a visit. Take the funicular up Mount Floyen for unbeatable views of this picturesque city in northern Norway, and stroll through the historic Bryggen district.
- Tromsø: This city beyond the Arctic Circle is the ideal point of departure for observing the Lyngen Alps from the deck of the ship and, if you are lucky, the Northern Lights. Whether it is your point of departure or just a stopover, Tromsø has a lot to offer you..
- Lofoten Islands: Admire these breathtaking islands from the ship, play captain on your cruise to the Lofoten Islands, and take advantage of a stopover to discover the treasures they hold. My favorite: the hike to Kvalvika beach.
- The Svalbard Islands: In a short day of sailing, you can enjoy one of the northernmost places in the world, where you may be able to spot polar bears in their natural habitat. During your cruise to the Svalbard Islands, you must visit the charming town of Ny-Ålesund. Personally, I loved it!
Our practical advice
- Documents: You can travel to Norway with just an identity card. If you are traveling to the Svalbard archipelago, you will need to bring your passport.
- Local specialties: Enjoy fresh produce, 90% of which is local, from the side of the boat. Be prepared for high prices in restaurants and supermarkets, especially for alcohol, as a bottle of wine can cost as much as USD60
- What to wear: Remember to bring clothing suitable for polar conditions for your cruise in Norway, especially for nights on deck to observe the Northern Lights, but also a good pair of sunglasses, as the snow can reflect light strongly during certain expeditions, captain's advice!
