Yacht charter Spain

Last updated on 8 April 2025

What type of boat to rent in Spain?

  • Catamarans are more stable than monohulls and therefore more suitable for families with young children. They offer more space and comfort and are faster than monohulls, allowing you to travel further afield.
  • Monohulls are more affordable and better suited to sporty sailing for adventure enthusiasts. They are also lighter than catamarans and therefore more suitable for shallow waters.
  • Motorboat charters are more accessible and cheaper, and this option is ideal for a day charter.

The services offered for your yacht charter in Spain

  • Bareboat yacht charter: this option allows you to rent a boat for a fixed period, generally by the day, week or month. You are then free to sail as you please and discover the wonders of Italy in complete autonomy.
  • Yacht charter with skipper: If you have little or no sailing experience or you simply want to spend a relaxing vacation, Filovent offers you the option of renting your boat with a professional skipper. The skipper will know the sailing area and will show you some of the most beautiful places in the region.
  • Additional services: Many rental companies offer a wide range of additional services that you can book, such as fishing and diving equipment. You can also hire a crew if you wish, especially if you rent a large boat, which usually includes a captain, a cook and a hostess. The crew will take care of you and make sure you have an unforgettable cruise!
  • Cabin cruise: You can book a cabin on board a top-of-the-range, people-sized boat that you will share with a few other travelers and a crew that will take care of your every need.

Where to sail in Spain?

  1. Along the Costa Brava: if you want to stay close to the Spanish coast and enjoy the seaside resorts along the Costa Brava, which stretches from the French border to Blanes, opt for a yacht charter in Roses or Empuriabrava and set off to explore Cadaqués.
  2. The Balearic Islands: the Balearic Islands are a cocktail of exoticism that are amongSpain's tourist gems. It is in this maritime area of approximately 5,000 km2, offering an incredible diversity of horizons, that pleasure boating takes on its full meaning, thanks to a yacht charter in Spain. Consult our cruise guide to the Balearic Islands to find out which island is right for you. Often chosen as the point of departure for a cruise to the other islands of the archipelago, Mallorca remains the destination with the most sites to discover by sailboat, motorboat or thanks to a catamaran charter in Spain. Thanks to yacht charters in the Balearic Islands, you will also have the privilege of getting to know Cabrera, a charming little limestone island located south of Cape Salines and which forms an archipelago with its neighboring islets. The area, classified as a National Park, is the perfect place for a walk, especially as it is home to an impressive 14th-century castle and a museum. About 75 nautical miles from Cabrera, Ibiza is also a must-see destination in the Balearic Islands. Just 3 nautical miles from the southern point of Ibiza, Formentera also attracts boaters exploring the archipelago on a yacht charter in Spain. Another major island in the Balearic archipelago, Menorca is about 25 nautical miles east of Mallorca and is sure to enchant travelers who love unspoiled and authentic places.

When to sail in Spain?

In spring, temperatures are mild and it is generally a pleasant time to sail. Tourist sites are not very busy. In summer, temperatures can be very high, especially in the south of Spain, but it is also the most popular time for sailing and other water activities. In autumn, as in spring, temperatures are milder and there are fewer tourists. However, there is an increased risk of rain, particularly in November. In winter, except in the south of Spain (such as in Andalusia), this period can be quite cool for pleasure boating. However, some areas, such as the Canary Islands, enjoy a mild climate all year round and can be ideal for sailing even in winter.

Here is an average of the temperatures recorded in recent years in Spain:

Our advice for a successful yacht charter in Spain:

  • Become familiar with local regulations: Before embarking on your sailboat charter, make sure you are familiar with the regulations in force in the region in terms of navigation zones, anchorages or protected areas.
  • Documents and formalities: If you are the skipper of the boat, make sure you have a boat license to present. In addition, we strongly advise you to take out damage waiver insurance even if you hire a skipper: in the event of damage to the boat, you are directly responsible, and damage waiver protects you from any unintentional damage.
