Yacht charter Azores Islands

Last updated on 16 February 2024

A small Portuguese archipelago in the heart of the Atlantic Ocean, the Azores were a historic stopover for navigators sailing to the New World. Even today, this destination promises a navigation rich in emotions, such are the magnificent panoramas.

from the side of your yacht charter in the Azores, learn about the exceptional history of the island, from port of call to port of call. Our partner bases are located in the Marinas of Horta, Lajes Do Pico and Velas.

The capital and main port city of the archipelago is located in the south of the island of San Miguel. During a stopover, set off to conquer the striking landscapes of the hinterland, with its lakes from ancient volcanoes and its forests of acacias and laurels.

Heading towards the island of Faial, you will discover the "small big city"of Horta, home to the fortress of Santa Cruz and the walls of San Sebastian, among other attractions. Before leaving the port, don't miss the local tradition of treating yourself to a mural on the quay.

On the island of São Jorge, Velas is the main port, sheltered at the foot of an ancient volcanic cone. Further south, on the island of Pico, Lajes do Pico was until 1984 an important base for hunting cetaceans. Today, the area is being converted to tourism: scuba diving, whale and dolphin watching. You can go out to sea in the Azores archipelago and meet whales and dolphins!

Succumb to the beauty of the beaches of the Azores archipelago

The beaches are indeed the most coveted during a cruise around the Azores islands. Deserted, urban, wild… the beaches of the Azores are unique and each one reveals a most breathtaking landscape! If you want to discover the most beautiful beaches of the Azores, head for São Miguel. The island is home to the most beautiful beaches in the archipelago, with long stretches of black and white sand. If you'd like to take a dip, head to Ribeira Quente.

Swimming and tranquility are also on the agenda on the deserted beaches of the island of Santa Maria, such as Praia Formosa. On the island of Pico, head for the village of Lajes where you will find splendid beaches of sand and volcanic rock, such as Baixa da Ribeirinha beach. This beach also offers a magnificent view of the island of São Jorge. Surfing enthusiasts, meanwhile, will be delighted to drop anchor at the Horta marina. They will be able to try to tame the waves caressing the famous Norte beach.

Nature and history hikes

Eco-tourism enthusiasts will find what they are looking for by opting for yacht charter in the Azores. Populated by volcanic islands with exuberant nature, the Azores archipelago guarantees a complete change of scenery. There is something for all tastes and desires!

Intrepid hikers will be delighted to explore the hiking trails criss-crossing the island of Sao Miguel. Your adventure will take you to the magnificent crater lakes and steaming springs that characterize the island. Take your time, especially at Lagoa das Furnas, which embellishes the town of Furnas. Located at an altitude of 600 meters, the site reveals a magnificent landscape embellished with Macaronesian vegetation. History buffs will certainly prefer to stroll through the streets of the city of Angra do Heroísmo, which overlooks the island of Terceira.
