For lovers of the sea and sailing...
Ports of call that will enhance your trip by boat
Yachtsmen sailing in the English Channel have the opportunity to discover a wealth of sumptuous landscapes in the north of France, from Brittany to Nord-Pas-de-Calais. However, compared to the Atlantic or Mediterranean sides of the boat, these coasts bathed by the Channel are not the most popular with recreational sailors, even though they are full of renowned tourist sites. Whether you choose them as a base or as a port of call, charismatic towns such as Cherbourg, Le Havre, Saint-Malo and Fécamp have many attractions that appeal to holidaymakers of all ages. The commune of Dinard, for example, could be an interesting point of departure for your cruise in the English Channel. While it is primarily known for its Bon Secours and La Manchette beaches, its Manoli museum, its Solidor Tower and its International Museum of the Cape Horn Long-Distance Race.
The rather tricky sailing conditions that characterize the English Channel may explain the difference in popularity between the northwestern French coast and the shores of France further south. However, all the skipper has to do is be sufficiently experienced to fully enjoy the pleasures of sailing in the region. With a wide choice of yachts with one hull or multiple hulls, the yacht charter in the English Channel also allows cruisers to benefit from the skills of an experienced and reliable skipper who is familiar with the subtleties of the waters on which he sails.
Exploring and contemplating the Normandy coast
Cabotage along the 640 km of Normandy coastline is a real treat for both nature lovers and history buffs. The Albâtre coast, enhanced by a Natura 2000 listed coastline in the department of la Manche, will reveal its surprising narrow coves and beautiful limestone cliffs interspersed with small valleys. The seaside resort of Etretat, world-famous for its monumental natural arches that have been carved out of the Aval, Amont and Manneporte cliffs, is one of the must-see stops. You can also admire some architectural masterpieces, including the Château des Aygues, which was the vacation residence of the queens of Spain, Marie-Christine and Isabella II, and the Manoir dearchitectural masterpieces, including the Château des Aygues, which was the vacation residence of the queens of Spain, Marie-Christine and Isabella II, the Manoir de la Salamandre, as well as the superb Villa Orphée built by Jacques Offenbach, the famous classical music composer.
Sailing in a yacht in the Baie de Seine in Normandy, towards the western part of the Pays d'Auge coastline, would also be an excellent idea. In this area anchored between the Côte de Nacre and the Côte de Grace lies the magnificent Côte Fleurie, which alternates between stretches of sand, cliffs with astonishing shapes and renowned seaside resorts. Sunbathing and swimming enthusiasts can choose between Cabourg, Deauville, Honfleur or Trouville for some delicious moments of relaxation. In addition, the west coast of Normandy, protected from the north and east winds, is also a place to explore by yacht. Of course, the islands of Alderney, Guernsey, Herm, Jersey and Sark remain tempting, but it is above all the fabulous Mont-Saint-Michel, located to the east of the mouth of the Couesnon, which remains an absolute priority, as shown by its classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
