Part of the beautiful commune of Flamanville, the port of Diélette is a destination with a special connection to the sea. This former fishing village has become a favorite anchorage for pleasure boats thanks to its modern facilities and seawall that protects it from the swells. A yacht charter from Dielette is an opportunity to explore the coastal villages of Normandy and the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, as well as major cities such as Cherbourg and Grandville. In the port, when the weather is mild, you can go to the aquatic center, which offers activities such as kayaking and wave skiing.
During your stopover at the port of Diélette, allow yourself to be charmed by the historic monuments of Flamanville, proud witnesses of a prestigious past. A majestic 17th-century heritage site set in a huge park, the chateau is known for its impressive collection of dahlias. Along the coast, a beautiful sandy beach invites you to take long walks and enjoy the pure air in the open sea. In summer, this stretch sheltered from the prevailing winds is a very popular place for swimming. In the hinterland, the succession of meadows reveals all the magic of the Norman bocage.
From a small beaching port to a large marina
built in 1731 under the orders of the Marquis de Flamanville, Diélette was originally a simple port of call. It was only a few decades later, when granite was extracted from the surrounding quarries, that the port became particularly strong in tonnage. It also contributed to the construction of the Place de la Concorde in 1837. Its reputation, however, had no impact on the small hamlet of Diélette, which retains its picturesque character.
It was only after major redevelopment work, which began in 1996, that the small port was transformed into a major marina. A new port with 460 rings welcomes a large number of yachtsmen of all nationalities who stop off to enjoy a moment of peace and quiet before passing the Raz Blanchard to reach the city of Cherbourg.
escape between two cities
A common port for the cities of Tréauville and Flamanville, Diélette remains an interesting stopover for those who wish to recharge their batteries for a few hours. Hiking is very popular here and leads to the bucolic lands of Normandy. You can venture with enthusiasm onto the granite plateau dating from the Paleozoic era where the town of Flamanville stands. A town where time seems to have stood still and which is home to some beautiful architecture such as its castle, built in the 17th century on the ruins of a stately manor, and its 13th-century church.
Hikes also lead to a surprising geographical curiosity: the Baligan hole. This is a large notch at the foot of Cape Flamanville, which extends more than 200 meters into the heart of the cliff. You can hear the roar of the sea as it penetrates the rock, feeding local myths and legends.
