Ushuaia Beagle Channel
Your journey begins where the world ends. Ushuaia, Argentina—known as the southernmost city on... see+ the planet—is located at the very southern tip of South America. In the afternoon, you’ll board your ship in this small seaside resort in Tierra del Fuego—nicknamed “the end of the world”—and cruise along the Beagle Channel, flanked by mountains, until late in the evening.

The voyage continues from the Beagle Channel toward the vast expanses of the Southern Ocean. As the... see+ coast of Tierra del Fuego gradually recedes, it isn’t long before we encounter the marine life of the Far South.
Carried by the powerful westerly winds, several species of albatrosses follow in the ship’s stern wave, offering a fascinating spectacle with their majestic flight and incredible mastery of the air currents. Also circling around them are numerous seabirds, such as storm petrels, puffins, and diving petrels, which spend most of their lives at sea. This rich avian diversity attests to the extraordinary biodiversity of the Southern Oceans and marks the first steps into the wild and unspoiled world of Antarctica

Beagle Channel Falkland Islands
The Falkland Islands are home to abundant wildlife that is easily accessible, although caution is... see+ always advised. These islands are largely unknown gems that were the scene of a war between the United Kingdom and Argentina in 1982. Not only are they home to a variety of bird species, but you’re also very likely to spot Peale’s dolphins and Commerson’s dolphins in the surrounding waters.

During this part of the trip, you’ll visit the following sites:

Westpoint Island—This magnificent island is home to an abundance of birds, from shorebirds close to the landing site to nesting Black-browed Albatrosses. Among them is a rookery of Rockhopper Penguins, which must undertake an incredible climb from the sea to reach their nests among the albatrosses.

Saunders Island—On Saunders Island, you’ll be able to observe the Black-browed Albatross and its sometimes clumsy landings, as well as Imperial Cormorants and Rockhopper Penguins during the breeding season. You’ll also find King Penguins, Magellanic Penguins, and Gentoo Penguins there.

Falkland Islands Port Stanley
As the capital of the Falkland Islands and the center of its culture, Port Stanley exudes... see+ Victorian-era charm: colorful houses, well-maintained gardens, and English-style pubs are all part of the experience. You can also see several century-old clippers nearby, silent witnesses to the hardships faced by sailors in the 19th century. The museum, small but interesting, is also worth a visit. It covers the early days of colonization through the Falklands War. About 2,100 people live in Port Stanley. Admission to the museum is included.

Port Stanley Antarctic Convergence
On your way to South Georgia, you are now crossing the Antarctic Convergence. The temperature drops... see+ significantly within a few hours, and nutrient-rich water rises to the sea surface as a result of the collision of water columns. This phenomenon attracts a multitude of seabirds to the ship, including several species of albatrosses, puffins, petrels, prions, and skuas.

Antarctic Convergence South Georgia Island
Today, you’ll arrive at South Georgia’s main activity site. Keep in mind that weather... see+ conditions in this region can be challenging and will largely dictate the itinerary.

Over the next few days, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the following sites:

Fortuna Bay—A magnificent outwash plain of the Fortuna Glacier is home to large numbers of king penguins and seals. Here, you may have the chance to follow the final leg of Shackleton’s sailing itinerary to the abandoned whaling village of Stromness. This trail crosses the mountain pass beyond Shackleton Falls, and since the terrain is partly marshy, be prepared to wade through a few small streams.

Andrews Bay, Gold Harbor—These sites are not only home to the three largest king penguin colonies in South Georgia, but they are also three of the world’s largest breeding beaches for Antarctic fur seals. Millions of fur seals breed in South Georgia in December and January. In February, the young Antarctic fur seals are curious and playful, filling the waves with life and joy, while the large elephant seals come ashore to molt.

Grytviken—In this abandoned whaling station, king penguins wander the streets and elephant seals lounge around as if the place belonged to them—because it does. You may be able to visit the South Georgia Museum and Shackleton’s grave there.

On the afternoon of the 10th day, weather permitting, we’ll begin sailing south toward the South Orkney Islands.

South Georgia Island Southern Ocean
The voyage continues toward the southernmost regions of Antarctica, into the heart of a world... see+ dominated by ice and vast ocean expanses. Depending on conditions, the ship may encounter the first areas of sea ice, signaling the approach to the most remote territories of the white continent.
At the edge of these ice fields, wildlife viewing becomes particularly captivating. Alongside the many seabirds already accompanying the ship, it is sometimes possible to spot McCormick’s skuas and snow petrels, two iconic species of the Antarctic regions. These birds, perfectly adapted to the extreme conditions of the Far South, navigate a spectacular landscape of pack ice, icebergs, and frozen seas. This day at sea thus offers a unique immersion in one of the wildest and best-preserved environments on the planet.

Southern Ocean South Orkney Islands
Depending on conditions, you may be able to visit the Orcadas Base, an Argentine research station... see+ located on Laurie Island in the South Orcades Archipelago. The staff will be happy to give you a tour of the facilities, from which you’ll have a breathtaking view of the surrounding glaciers. If a visit isn’t possible, you can land at Shingle Cove on Coronation Island.

South Orkney Islands Elephant island
You have just traveled roughly the same sailing itinerary (albeit in the opposite direction) as Sir... see+ Ernest Shackleton, who used only a small boat, the James Caird, in the spring of 1916. Seeing Elephant Island come into view on the horizon after crossing all that water, it’s hard not to marvel at how he and his five crew members accomplished this feat.
The purpose of Shackleton’s crossing was to rescue 22 shipwrecked members of his Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition—also known as the Endurance Expedition—who were stranded on Elephant Island. Over the course of four and a half months, Shackleton undertook this legendary rescue mission.
Living conditions on Elephant Island are harsh. The coastline consists mainly of sheer cliffs of rock and ice that are highly exposed to the elements. If possible, you’ll take Zodiacs to Point Wild, where the members of Shackleton’s expedition miraculously managed to survive.

Ice conditions permitting, you’ll sail through the Antarctic Strait, at the northwestern tip of... see+ the Weddell Sea. Here, colossal tabular icebergs signal your arrival at the eastern side of the Antarctic Peninsula. Brown Bluff is a potential landing site, where you may have the chance to set foot on the continent.

Antarctic Peninsula South Shetland Islands
The volcanic islands of the South Shetlands are buffeted by the wind and often shrouded in mist,... see+ but they offer subtle pleasures: The flora there is very diverse (mosses, lichens, flowering plants), and the fauna is no less abundant (Chinstrap penguins, Gentoo penguins, giant petrels).
On Deception Island, the ship sails into Neptune’s Bellows and the flooded caldera. There, you’ll find an abandoned whaling station and thousands of Antarctic petrels, as well as kelp gulls, brown and southern Antarctic skuas, and Antarctic terns. A good hike is possible in this fascinating and desolate volcanic landscape.

South Shetland Islands At sea - Antarctica
Gray stone peaks dusted with snow, blue-white towers of shattered ice, and unique polar wildlife... see+ both above and below the water’s surface welcome you to the otherworldly expanse of Antarctica. You’ll enter the Gerlache Strait, venturing into one of the most beautiful sites Antarctica has to offer.

Among the sites you may visit are

Neko Harbor—An epic landscape of gigantic glaciers and endless wind-sculpted snow, Neko Harbor offers the opportunity for a Zodiac cruise and a shore excursion that provides the closest views of the surrounding alpine peaks.

Paradise Bay – You may be able to take a Zodiac cruise through these vast, ice-dotted waters, where you’ll have a good chance of encountering minke whales and small humpback whales.

The goal is then to head south. If conditions permit, the sites you can visit “beyond” the Arctic Circle are as follows:

Crystal Sound—Your journey takes you south along the Argentine islands to this icy stretch of water, and from there, you’ll cross the Arctic Circle in the morning.

Detaille Island - You can land at an abandoned British research station and admire the island’s towering mountains and imposing glaciers.

Pourquoi Pas Island - You can circumnavigate this island, named after the ship of the famous French explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot. This area is known for its narrow fjords and towering, glacier-covered mountains.

Horseshoe Island—This is where the former British Base Y is located, a relic from the 1950s that is no longer inhabited but is still equipped with nearly all the technology it had when it was in service.
