In the morning, optional excursion: Vienna and its Christmas market. During this panoramic tour,... see+ you'll discover the famous boulevard known as "the Ring". More than 150 years in the making, it embodies beauty like a necklace adorning the center of Vienna. You'll see the exceptional pearls built during the historicist era between 1830 and 1890: the opera house, the Museum of Fine Arts, palaces and the Votive Church. All these different buildings give the city a unique atmosphere, and "the Ring" is arguably the most beautiful boulevard in the world. At Christmas, Vienna's most beautiful squares are transformed into enchanting Christmas markets. The smell of Christmas shortbread, hot punch and roasted almonds wafts through the air. The old town and shopping streets are decked out in festive costumes, and the spirit of Christmas hangs over the city. You'll return to the town hall square for some free time at the Christmas market.

Return on board and afternoon sailing to Budapest. Evening dance on board.

Morning optional excursion: Budapest and its Christmas market. Budapest reveals its splendour... see+ around the Danube. The architecture designed by man century after century has given rise to Baroque, Neoclassical and Art Nouveau buildings. Take a panoramic tour between the hills of Buda and the plains of Pest. You'll then follow the river to admire the Parliament building overlooking the Danube. Budapest lights up in the run-up to Christmas and invites you to discover its wintry face at one of the Christmas and Advent markets. In a festive, friendly atmosphere, Vörösmarty Square is decked out in a thousand lights, offering you the very best in Hungarian handicrafts. Don't miss the magnificent Advent calendar created on the façade of Café Gerbeaud. Return on board.

Free afternoon in Budapest. Discover the city and its Christmas markets at your own pace. In the cold of winter, warm up with a glass of mulled wine, puncs or pálinka (local brandy), sample traditional pastries such as kürt's kalács (chimney cake) or Bejgli (rolled poppy seed or walnut cake).

Return on board and overnight sail to Bratislava.

Morning sailing. We pass the Gab'íkovo dam, one of the largest on the Danube. You'll sail along... see+ the protected Dunajské luhy landscape park, a marshland that is a crucial environment for rare bird species, one of the most important nesting areas and an exceptional ornithological territory stretching right up to the gates of Bratislava.
Optional excursion: Bratislava and its Christmas market. A panoramic tour will take you up to Bratislava Castle, from where you'll enjoy a magnificent view of the Danube and the city. Then a walking tour of the old town. You'll stroll along Michalská Street, one of Bratislava's oldest and most famous streets. Most of the houses, once merchant houses, are in the Renaissance style. The impressive Michel Gate, symbol of Bratislava, is the only one of the four gates of the city walls to have been preserved. You'll also see the primatial palace with its neoclassical facade. The most impressive building is the old town hall with its large tower. The square is a meeting point for the town's inhabitants, who come here in summer to cool off. In winter, it's home to the Christmas market, where you can enjoy a stroll under the scent of mulled wine and gingerbread. You can stroll between the small chalets selling Slovak handicrafts such as pottery and blown glass, as well as local produce.
Return to the ship. Gala evening.

Activities

You will begin the tour by taking the famous Ring, which was one of Emperor Franz Joseph's personal projects. In 1857, he decided to dismantle the ramparts surrounding the city center and build a boulevard lined with beautiful buildings. Along the Ring, you... see+ will admire this architectural showcase of the former Austro-Hungarian monarchy, including the State Opera House, the Hofburg Palace, the Natural History Museum, City Hall, and the Burgtheater. In the MVI/MVI_PP/NVI/NVI_PP program: At the end of the tour, you will return to City Hall Square to enjoy some free time to explore the Christmas market or Christkindlmarkt. Clustered around a huge wreath twelve meters in diameter, some 150 chalets offer gifts, Christmas tree decorations, and more. All around, the decorated trees in City Hall Park sparkle with a thousand lights. You will have the opportunity to admire these small handcrafted items in a magical setting while enjoying a cone of roasted chestnuts or a glass of mulled wine. Depart by coach, accompanied by your guides, and leave the pier for a panoramic tour of Budapest, known as the Pearl of the Danube. Your discovery will begin on the Buda side, the hilly part of the city, which you will reach by crossing one of the famous... see+ bridges over the Danube. You will then climb the castle hill to reach the Royal Palace (exterior), where you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the city. In the distance, you will see the Fisherman's Bastion, a monument that pays tribute to the origins of the Hungarians, with seven towers symbolizing the seven tents of the seven Magyar tribes. Your tour will then take you to Pest, the flatter and more modern part of the city. You will discover the majestic Heroes' Square, dominated by its imposing central monument, erected for the millennium of Hungary. It depicts Chief Árpád and the seven chiefs of the founding tribes. You will pass by the famous Széchenyi Baths, the zoological park—a true architectural gem—and Vajdahunyad Castle, which evokes Hungarian architecture through the centuries. As you walk along the prestigious Andrássy Avenue, you will see St. Stephen's Basilica, whose construction began in 1851 and was completed in 1905. Finally, as you walk along the Danube, you will admire the Hungarian Parliament, a majestic building with Byzantine and Neo-Gothic influences, which dominates the river with its striking silhouette. Return to the boat at the end of the tour.In the MVI/MVI_PP/NVI/NVI_PP program: The tour will end at Vörösmarty Square, where you will discover one of the largest Christmas markets in Europe with its craft fair and Advent calendar. Be sure to try the traditional mulled wine and gingerbread, and recharge your batteries with the pleasant scent of fir trees. Before becoming the capital of independent Slovakia in 1993, Bratislava was first the capital of Hungary from 1536 to 1784 under the name Pressburg. It then belonged to Czechoslovakia and became the capital of the "Slovak Socialist Republic," part of... see+ Czechoslovakia between 1969 and 1992. Accompanied by your guides, you will begin the tour with a panoramic tour of the city that will take you to Bratislava Castle, dating from 1811, as the previous castle burned down. From there, you will have a stunning view of the Danube and the city. The main historical monuments are located in the old town, and the bus will drop you off at the entrance to the old town to continue the tour on foot. You will enter the old town through Michael's Gate, which is the only remaining gate dating from the Middle Ages. Then you will head to the central square lined with elegant buildings, some of which are Art Nouveau in style, dominated by Bratislava's old town hall . You will continue the tour by discovering the primatial palacecompleted in 1781 for Archbishop Jozef Bathyány. As you wander through the streets, you may come across amusing statues that populate the capital. After the tour, you will have some free time and then return to the boat on foot or by bus, depending on the sailing schedule.
