Optional authentic excursion/experience: visit to Melk Abbey (booking required before departure). A... see+ masterpiece of Baroque architecture, the abbey overlooks the splendid Wachau Valley. You will notice the ochre color adorning the grandiose façade, reminiscent of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. The interior of the abbey is not to be missed, featuring magnificent Baroque frescoes and a library containing nearly 100,000 volumes, some of which are among the most precious manuscripts of the Middle Ages. Return to the side of the boat and sail to Dürnstein, arriving in the early afternoon. Free time in the small medieval town, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architectural heritage. The village is full of curiosities, including the elegant Baroque bell tower of Dürnstein Church, the medieval and Renaissance facades of the town hall, and the colorful houses on the main street. Continue sailing to Vienna.

In the evening, optional authentic excursion/experience: visit Vienna "by night." A veritable open-air museum, you will discover the capital city all lit up. The illuminated facades reveal all their splendor. The Musikverein takes on a whole new dimension under these lights, and the opera house reveals its interior decorations thanks to the play of light. On Schwarzenbergplatz, you will see the gilded bronze statue of Johann Strauss and many other monuments, such as the Hofburg Palace and the Augustinian Church. You will appreciate this other side of Vienna.

Departure by bus accompanied by the boat's hostess toMelk Abbey. The abbey guides will meet you in the inner courtyard to begin the tour. Overlooking the Danube, the abbey, which has been home to Benedictine monks for 900 years, was originally built as a... see+ fortified castle for the Babenberg family. The abbey was founded in the 11th century and the current Benedictine abbey buildings date from the Baroque period and are the work of architect Jakob Prandtauer. Melk Abbey houses a museum where you will discover various exhibits that have been brought to life through architecture, sound and light, and the use of various media. Computer animations tell the story of how the buildings were constructed. You will also visit the library and the marble hall, true gems of Baroque architecture. Return to the side of the boat by bus. NOTES Wear comfortable shoes: there is a staircase and 500m of paved path to walk from the bus parking lot to the abbey entrance. Depending on the cruise, the visit may take place in the afternoon or the morning. Proper attire is required. Depending on the sailing schedule, passengers will have some free time. Meet up with the guides for a foot tour of Vienne, during which you can discover this Roman city rich in historical remains. Vienne's history dates back more than 2,000 years. The city is inseparable from the Rhône River and the hills that surround it.... see+ The Allobroges people made it their capital, but it was during the Roman era that Vienne began to prosper on both banks of the river. You will see the ancient theater, built around 40-50 AD, which is considered one of the most important of Roman antiquity, with a diameter of 130 m and a capacity at the time estimated at 13,000 spectators. Restored in 1938, it has regained its original function as a venue for artistic events. You will continue on to the Temple of Augustus and Livia (exterior). Named as such since the end of the 18th century, this temple, dedicated to the cult of Rome and Augustus, stood in a sacred area on the forum. Its construction began around 20-10 BC; it was then converted into a church in the early Middle Ages and finally restored in the second half of the 19th century thanks to the intervention of Prosper Mérimée.
