It is dominated on the east side by the imposing walls of the Palais des Papes, facing the Baroque sculptures of the Hôtel des Monnaies. A large golden virgin sits enthroned, as if watching over the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Doms, while at the end of the perspective, the Petit Palais displays its elegant Renaissance-style crenellated facade. Finally, visit the Palais des Papes, the most important monument of Avignon's heritage. It consists of two parts: the old palace built by Benedict XII (Pope from 1334 to 1342), and the new palace built by his successor Clement VI "the Magnificent" (Pope from 1342 to 1352), whose façade and Porte des Champeaux overlook the Place du Palais des Papes. Meet your guide and set off to visit Les Baux de Provence, one of the most beautiful villages in France. It is located in the heart of the Alpilles on a rocky plateau. The village overlooks exceptional landscapes of Arles, the Camargue, and the Alpilles,... see+ offering breathtaking panoramic views. This immense and superb stone fortress is undoubtedly one of Provence's must-see attractions. Tourism began to develop after the Second World War with the arrival of Raymond Thuillier, who contributed to the international renown of Les Baux by opening the famous "Oustau de Baumanière," a grand gourmet restaurant frequented by celebrities and important political figures of the time. In 1966, André Malraux issued a decree placing the entire commune under the protection of the Ministry of Culture and the Environment. A period of rebirth and rehabilitation began for the small town, which had been forgotten since the revolution and which, in 1998, earned it a place among "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France" (The Most Beautiful Villages of France). Continue by coach for a panoramic view at the Col de Rousset. It is located in the heart of the Vercors and rises to an altitude of over 1,400 meters. Continue to Vassieux-en-Vercors, La Chapelle-en-Vercors, and Pont-en-Royans. Discover the suspended houses of Pont-en-Royans. These houses, with their bold architecture, have a history as long as that of the hilltop village, which was built in the 15th century to promote the timber trade in the region.
