This magnificent building houses an eminently refined imperial furnishing, and the spirit of the Habsburgs watches over the dazzling residence. Return to the boat. In the afternoon, optional excursion: Vienna and its Christmas market. During this panoramic tour, you will discover the famous boulevard known as "the Ring." It was created over 150 years ago. You will see architectural gems built during the historicist period between 1830 and 1890, including the opera house, the Museum of Fine Arts, palaces, and the Votive Church. These diverse buildings give the area a unique atmosphere, and "the Ring" is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful boulevards in the world. At Christmas, Vienna’s most beautiful squares transform into enchanting Christmas markets. The scent of Christmas cookies, hot punch, and roasted almonds fills the air. The old town and shopping streets don their festive attire, and the Christmas spirit hovers over the city. You will reach the Town Hall Square, where you will have free time to enjoy the Christmas market.

Day of sailing towards Budapest. Take this opportunity to admire the banks of the Danube. It... see+ originates in Germany, in the heart of the magnificent mountain range of the Black Forest. Formed by the confluence of two streams, the Brigach and the Breg, the river flows for 2,860 km, connecting the German forest to the Black Sea. As the only European river that flows from west to east, it passes through legendary cities such as Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, and Belgrade. The beauty of its banks has inspired many composers, such as Johann Strauss, as well as writers.

Arrival in Budapest in the late afternoon. New Year's Eve dinner. Christmas Mass in Budapest (The Christmas Mass will be conducted in Hungarian. The location may vary depending on seat availability.) Morning, optional excursion: Budapest. Budapest reveals its splendor around the Danube. The... see+ architecture, designed by humans century after century, has given rise to Baroque, Neoclassical, and Art Nouveau buildings. Panoramic tour between the hills of Buda and the plains of Pest. Then you will follow the river, where you can admire the Parliament overlooking the Danube. Budapest lights up as Christmas approaches and invites you to discover its winter charm at one of the Christmas and Advent markets. In a festive and friendly atmosphere, Vörösmarty Square shines with a thousand lights and offers you the best of Hungarian craftsmanship. Do not miss the magnificent Advent calendar created on the façade of the Gerbeaud Café. Return on board.

Afternoon free in Budapest. Take the opportunity to discover the city and its Christmas markets at your own pace. In the winter chill, warm up with a glass of mulled wine, "puncs," or pálinka (local brandy), taste traditional pastries such as "kürtoskalács" (chimney cake) or Bejgli (rolled cake with poppy seeds or walnuts).

Morning sailing towards Bratislava. You will pass through the Gabcíkovo dam, one of the largest on... see+ the Danube. You will follow the protected landscaped park of Dunajské luhy. This marshland is a crucial environment for rare bird species, being one of the most important nesting areas, an exceptional ornithological territory extending to the gates of Bratislava.

Upon arrival, optional excursion: Bratislava. A panoramic tour will take you to Bratislava Castle, where you will enjoy a magnificent view of the Danube and the city. Then, a walking tour of the old town. You will stroll along Michalská Street, one of the oldest and most famous in Bratislava, perfect for a leisurely walk. The houses, formerly merchants' homes, are mostly Renaissance-style. The impressive Michael’s Gate, a symbol of Bratislava, is the only remaining of the four original city wall gates. You will also see the Primate's Palace with its neoclassical façade. The most impressive building remains the old town hall with its large tower. The square is a popular meeting point for locals who come here in summer to enjoy a bit of coolness. In winter, it hosts the Christmas market, where you can stroll among the scents of mulled wine and gingerbread. You can wander between small chalets offering Slovak handicrafts, such as pottery or blown glass, as well as local products.

Activities

You will begin the tour by taking the famous Ring Road to Schönbrunn Palace. Once you arrive at Schönbrunn Palace, you will be guided through the many rooms of the Habsburgs' summer residence, which bear witness to the splendor of court life during... see+ the reign of Maria Theresa. You will also have some free time to stroll through the palace gardens. Return to the side of the boat. NOTES The order of visits may be changed. Times are given as a guide only. Meet up with the guides for a foot tour of Vienne, during which you can discover this Roman city rich in historical remains. Vienne's history dates back more than 2,000 years. The city is inseparable from the Rhône River and the hills that surround it.... see+ The Allobroges people made it their capital, but it was during the Roman era that Vienne began to prosper on both banks of the river. You will see the ancient theater, built around 40-50 AD, which is considered one of the most important of Roman antiquity, with a diameter of 130 m and a capacity at the time estimated at 13,000 spectators. Restored in 1938, it has regained its original function as a venue for artistic events. You will continue on to the Temple of Augustus and Livia (exterior). Named as such since the end of the 18th century, this temple, dedicated to the cult of Rome and Augustus, stood in a sacred area on the forum. Its construction began around 20-10 BC; it was then converted into a church in the early Middle Ages and finally restored in the second half of the 19th century thanks to the intervention of Prosper Mérimée. Finally, to end this tour, discover Saint Maurice Cathedral (exterior), which has been classified as a historic monument since 1840. Return to the ship by foot. Depart by coach, accompanied by your guides, and leave the pier for a panoramic tour of Budapest, known as the Pearl of the Danube.Your tour will begin on the Buda side, the hilly part of the city, which you will reach by crossing one of the famous decks over... see+ the Danube.You will then climb the castle hill to reach the Royal Palace (exterior), where you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the city. In the distance, you will see the Fisherman's Bastion, a monument that pays tribute to the origins of the Hungarians, with seven towers symbolizing the seven tents of the seven Magyar tribes.Your tour will then take you to Pest, the flatter and more modern part of the city. You will discover the majestic Heroes' Square, dominated by its imposing central monument, erected for the millennium of Hungary. It depicts the leader Árpád and the seven leaders of the founding tribes.You will pass by the famous Széchenyi Baths, the zoological park—a true architectural gem—and Vajdahunyad Castle, which evokes Hungarian architecture through the centuries.As you walk along the prestigious Andrássy Avenue, you will see St. Stephen's Basilica, whose construction began in 1851 and was completed in 1905. Before becoming the capital of independent Slovakia in 1993, Bratislava was first the capital of Hungary from 1536 to 1784 under the name Pressburg. It then belonged to Czechoslovakia and became the capital of the "Slovak Socialist Republic," part... see+ of Czechoslovakia between 1969 and 1992. Accompanied by your guides, you will begin the tour with a panoramic tour of the city that will take you to Bratislava Castle ( exterior), dating from 1811, as the previous castle burned down. From there, you will have a stunning view of the Danube and the city. The main historical monuments are located in the old town, where the bus will drop you off to continue the tour on foot. You will enter through Michael's Gate, the only remaining gate dating back to the Middle Ages. Then you will head to the central square, with the elegant buildings hauled in on one side, some of which are Art Nouveau in style, dominated by the old Bratislava City Hall . You will continue the tour by discovering the Primatial Palace ( exterior), completed in 1781 for Archbishop Jozef Bathyány. As you wander the streets, you may come across some amusing statues that populate the capital. After the tour, you will have some free time and then return to the boat on foot or by bus, depending on the sailing schedule. NOTES Wear comfortable shoes: the streets are paved.
