Meet your guides at the boat for a departure by foot to the centerof Avignon. With the Palais des Papes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and witness to its past as the capital of Christianity in the Middle Ages, the city offers a magnificent collection of... see+ monuments. In the passageway of the oratory, admire (from the outside) the chapel, a listed historical monument where many events take place during the famous Avignon Festival. Continue along Rue St Agricol. You will also see the diocesan church, the oldest in the city. Stop at Place de l'Horloge. Place de l'Horloge has always been the heart of Avignon. The space where the Roman forum once stood is now occupied by café terraces and restaurants set up in the shade of large plane trees. Opposite are the facades ofthe Town Hall and the theater built in the 19th century. Continue on to Place du Palais. This square is a vast esplanade measuring 240 meters by 48 meters. It is dominated on the east side by the imposing walls of the Palais des Papes, facing the Baroque sculptures of the Hôtel des Monnaies. A large golden virgin sits enthroned, as if watching over the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Doms, while at the end of the perspective, the Petit Palais displays its elegant Renaissance-style crenellated facade. Finally, visit the Palais des Papes, the most important monument of Avignon's heritage. It consists of two parts: the old palace built by Benedict XII (Pope from 1334 to 1342), and the new palace built by his successor Clement VI "the Magnificent" (Pope from 1342 to 1352), whose façade and Porte des Champeaux overlook the Place du Palais des Papes. Departure by coach for an excursion to the Luberon. You will see the village of Gordes, one of “The Most Beautiful Villages in France.” Nestled in the heart of the Vaucluse Mountains and the Luberon Natural Park, Gordes and its château majestically... see+ overlook the valley. You will admire all the features of this perched village, standing above limestone cliffs adorned with dry-stone houses typical of the region. Arrival at the Abbey of Sénanque, a magnificent example of Cistercian art. Founded in 1148 by Cistercian monks from Mazan Abbey in Ardèche, the church was the first building to be constructed, unusually oriented to the north instead of the traditional east. The monastery took around sixty years to complete, using local stone.
Monastic life at Sénanque remains austere, following a rhythm of prayer and work. The monks gather seven times a day to pray and cultivate lavandin. The production of this blue flower is one of the abbey’s trademarks — harvested in July/August to produce essential oil, later used in perfumes, pillow sprays, and other products.

If the abbey visit is unavailable, it will be replaced by a visit to the Lavender Museum:
Located near Gordes, in the heart of the “golden triangle,” the museum is housed in a traditional dry-stone farmhouse and serves as a conservatory for fine Provençal lavender. Over 346 artifacts trace the history of lavender in Provence from the 16th century to today. The tour begins with an introduction to lavender’s history and uses — culinary and medicinal — followed by interactive exhibits on its varieties and distillation process. The visit concludes with a sensory experience where you can smell and test lavender essential oil.

Return to the ship at the end of the visit.

Be careful if you suffer from motion sickness. Wear good walking shoes. The order of visits may be changed. Times are given as a guide only.
