Afternoon sailing to Bratislava. You'll pass the Gabcikovo dam, one of the largest on the Danube. You'll sail past the Dunajské Luhy protected landscape park, a marshland that is a crucial environment for rare bird species, one of the most important nesting areas and an exceptional ornithological territory stretching right up to the gates of Bratislava. - Authentic: guided tour of the Slovak capital. Situated at the foot of the Little Carpathians, the city is surrounded by woodland and rocky outcrops. Its castle, the city's emblem, stands on a hill above the Danube. From its forecourt, you can enjoy a unique view of the city and the river. The medieval old town is not to be outdone, with its maze of winding streets, squares, fountains and cafés. Bratislava is also known for its intense cultural and nightlife scene.
- Experience: hiking in the Little Carpathians through the Devinska Kobyla nature reserve. This Slovakian nature reserve, just a few kilometers from the capital, will take you to the ruins of Devin Castle, from where you'll enjoy an admirable view of the Danube.
Afternoon sailing along the Danube Alluvial Meadows National Park, the wildest part of the Danube, a veritable oasis between Bratislava and Vienna. Arrival in Vienna at the end of the day.

Morning optional excursions:
- Authentic: visit Schoenbrunn Palace and take a panoramic tour of... see+ Vienna. A prestigious court center in the 18th century, the castle's ochre facade is closely linked to the dual Austro-Hungarian monarchy. The splendid edifice is home to eminently refined imperial furnishings, and the spirit of the Habsburgs watches over the dazzling residence. Then take a panoramic tour of the famous boulevard known as "the Ring". You'll see the exceptional monuments built between 1830 and 1890 that give it its unique atmosphere.
- Experience Vienna as the Viennese do. You'll discover one of Vienna's most important concert venues, the famous Konzerthaus. Inaugurated in 1913 by Emperor Franz Joseph, the Konzerthaus has since evolved from tradition and innovation to become one of the most popular venues for musical ensembles (a visit to the Konzerthaus may be replaced by a visit to the Musikverein, or the opera house in the event of performances or unavailability). You'll then head off to one of the city's many cafés for a cup of Viennese coffee. You'll have to go back to imperial times to discover its origins. In harsh winters, carriage drivers used to drink a hot cup of coffee topped with whipped cream between each run, to keep them going. The "coachman's coffee" or "Einspänner" was later called Viennese coffee outside Austria.
In the afternoon, optional authentic excursion/experience: visit the Hofburg. Located in the historic heart of Vienna, the Hofburg is an astonishing sight. It exudes the sense of excess and splendor associated with imperial power. Nevertheless, it is a fascinating place for history and architecture enthusiasts. Today, the imperial apartments house the "Sissi" museum, where the seductive empress has become a cult figure adored by all.

Early in the morning, drive up the most beautiful part of the Wachau. This landscape, shaped by the... see+ Danube, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Austria's oldest cultural region. The valley stretches for some 30 kilometers and is one of the most beautiful in Europe. Arrival in Melk in the early morning.
Optional authentic excursion/experience: visit Dürnstein, a small medieval town listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architectural heritage. The village is packed with sights, including the elegant baroque bell tower of the Dürnstein church, the medieval and Renaissance facades of the town hall and the colorful houses in the main alley.
In the afternoon, optional authentic excursion/experience: visit Melk Abbey. A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the abbey dominates the splendid Wachau valley. The ochre color of the grandiose façade is reminiscent of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Inside, the abbey boasts magnificent Baroque frescoes and a library containing almost 100,000 volumes, including some of the most precious manuscripts of the Middle Ages. Return to Ybbs.

Activities

Before becoming the capital of independent Slovakia in 1993, Bratislava was first the capital of Hungary from 1536 to 1784 under the name Pressburg. It then belonged to Czechoslovakia and became the capital of the "Slovak Socialist Republic," part of... see+ Czechoslovakia between 1969 and 1992. Accompanied by your guides, you will begin the tour with a panoramic tour of the city that will take you to Bratislava Castle, dating from 1811, as the previous castle burned down. From there, you will have a stunning view of the Danube and the city. The main historical monuments are located in the old town, and the bus will drop you off at the entrance to the old town to continue the tour on foot. You will enter the old town through Michael's Gate, which is the only remaining gate dating from the Middle Ages. Then you will head to the central square, with the elegant buildings hauled in on one side, some of which are Art Nouveau in style, dominated by Bratislava's old town hall . You will continue the tour by discovering the primatial palacecompleted in 1781 for Archbishop Jozef Bathyány. As you wander the streets, you may come across amusing statues that populate the capital. After the tour, you will have some free time and then return to the boat on foot or by bus, depending on the sailing schedule. In the MVI/MVI_PP/NVI/NVI_PP program: After the tour, you can enjoy some free time at the Christmas market, located on Town Hall Square. You can stroll among the small chalets offering Slovak handicrafts, such as pottery and blown glass, as well as local products. NOTES The order of visits may be changed. Depart by bus with your guides to the Hofburg. The Hofburg is also known for having been the "winter residence" of the Habsburgs for close to 600 years. During their reign, they transformed a small 13th-century fortress into a huge and magnificent palace.... see+ Today, most of the buildings house museums, and the gardens, dotted with monuments, have become the Volksgarten and Burggarten. Take the imperial staircase to reach the Sissi Museum. Six rooms in the Hofburg have been converted to house the museum, which focuses mainly on Elisabeth's private life, highlighted by her poems that reveal her personality. You can admire many personal items that belonged to the empress, as well as a reproduction of the dress she wore at her farewell ball on the occasion of her engagement. Also on display are the most famous portraits, the beautiful empress's jewelry, and a partial reproduction of the luxurious carriage converted into a salon. You will arrive in the imperial apartments and have access to the 19 official and private rooms of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth. The imperial apartments bear witness to the splendor of the monarchy. Among other things, you will see the emperor's audience chamber, his study, and his bedroom. Then you will visit the empress's apartments, with her salon, her dressing room, and her exercise room, where the empress did a great deal of physical exercise every day. Return to the boat by bus. The abbey was founded in the 11th century and the current Benedictine abbey buildings date from the Baroque period and are the work of architect Jakob Prandtauer. Melk Abbey houses a museum where you will discover various exhibits that have been brought to life through architecture, sound and light, and the use of various media. Computer animations tell the story of how the buildings were constructed. You will also visit the library and the marble hall, true gems of Baroque architecture.
