Francfort Kangerlussuaq
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport for a chartered flight from Frankfurt to... see+ Kangerlussuaq. Arrival at the airport, transfer by coach to the port to board the ship. Kangerlussuaq is a small village at the bottom of a 170 km deep fjord, 60 km north of the Arctic Circle.

Kangerlussuaq Sisimiut
Sisimiut is located just north of the Arctic Circle. It is Greenland's second-largest town with... see+ around 5,000 inhabitants and a very active fishing port.
Visit the old town, now a museum that retains its authentic character, as well as the first church dating back to 1775. Visit to a sled dog farm, the pride of the local people.

Sisimiut Aasiaat
Aasiaat was founded in 1759. It has an interesting museum recounting the traditional life of the... see+ ‘Kalaallits, Inuit of Greenland’. In the old colonial quarter, you will also notice the old houses dating back to Danish colonisation (mid 18th century). All this contrasts with the modern town (3,142 inhabitants), with its large canning factory and shipyard built in 1974.

Aasiaat Qeqertasuaq
The area is bordered by basalt cliffs over 1000m high, the result of volcanic activity dating back... see+ 55 to 65 million years, to which the hot springs still bear witness. It's a paradise for lovers of biology, ornithology, zoology and botany. More than 50% of Greenland's 500 plant species are represented on the island. It is home to the oldest Arctic research station still in operation.

Qeqertasuaq Uummannaq
This small town, a former whaling station, is still marked by fishing and sled dogs, which... see+ outnumber cars! Free time to explore the Uummannaq museum: an instructive tour of the region's history, including the lead and zinc ore quarries (abandoned in 1990) and, above all, the history of the women's and children's mummies. Although they were around five centuries old, they were in a perfect state of preservation. Found in a nearby commune, they are now in Nuuk's national museum.

Uummannaq Upernavik
Literally ‘the place of spring’, at around 73° north latitude, Upernavik lies at the heart of... see+ a maze of islands and channels, on a small mountainous island between Baffin Bay and Melville Bay. This Inuit village of around 1,300 inhabitants, like all the others in Greenland, is made up of colourful wooden houses built into the sides of a hill. It used to be a popular trading and fishing destination. One of Upernavik's charms remains its isolation from the rest of the country, with its own dialect and Inuit traditions still very much alive.

Upernavik Sarqaq
Sarqaq is the name of one of the oldest known civilisations in Greenland. This nomadic civilisation... see+ arrived around 2400 BC and disappeared around 900 BC, probably due to a climatic change to which they were unable to adapt. The nomads lived in skin-covered tents and used seal blubber as fuel for their stone lamps.

Disko Bay Ilulissat
In the heart of the famous Disko Bay, the Ilulissat ice fjord (4,240 ha), a UNESCO World Heritage... see+ site, is the sea mouth of Sermeq Kujalleq, one of the few glaciers through which the ice of the Greenland ice sheet reaches the sea. It is one of the fastest (19 m per day) and most active glaciers in the world. Its annual calving of over 35 km3, or 10% of all the icebergs in Greenland, exceeds that of all the other glaciers in the world outside Antarctica. Studied for over 250 years, the site has enriched our understanding of climate change and ice sheet glaciology.

A day at sea in the sumptuous setting of Stromfjord. As the ship slowly makes its way through the... see+ calm waters bordered by jagged mountains, you will enjoy a programme of lectures on board given by members of the expedition team. These talks will give you the chance to learn more about the Arctic, its wildlife, its geology and its peoples. A day of contemplation and enrichment, before arriving in Kangerlussuaq.
