Close to Athens, Lavrio is a peaceful marina... see+ welcoming boats from all over the world. The town has been famous since antiquity for its silver mines on Mount Laurion, which played a major role in the rise of Athens and the Greek economy in the 20th century. Weather permitting, take a stroll through the town and discover the many remains of this industry, which flourished until the 1980s: old neoclassical buildings, industrial buildings and workers' houses. You can also take advantage of this stopover to discover Athens and its acropolis, or Cape Sounion, home to the magnificent Temple of Poseidon.
