Fed by the ice sheet, its immense front is particularly active: gigantic blocks of ice regularly break off with a spectacular crash, offering one of the Arctic’s most beautiful natural spectacles.
This site is also steeped in history. Between 1948 and 1958, explorer Paul-Émile Victor and the French Polar Expeditions established one of their main research camps here, making a decisive contribution to scientific knowledge of Greenland.

As you explore, admire the charming red wooden church, surrounded by traditional houses, and immerse yourself in the authentic atmosphere of this Arctic community. You can also visit Santa Claus’s famous summer cabin, a local attraction that contributes to the town’s fame.
The Uummannaq Museum offers insight into the region’s history and culture. In particular, it features the fascinating Qilakitsoq mummies, remarkably preserved by the cold and discovered in 1972, offering an exceptional glimpse into the lives of the Inuit centuries ago.

Uummannaq Upernavik Melville Bay
The ship stops in Upernavik, one of Greenland’s northernmost settlements.
