Bratislava Tulln Wachau
Tulln, a historic town on the southern bank of the Austrian Danube, dates back to Roman times, when... see+ it was home to the Comagena fortress, an important military and economic center. In the Middle Ages, its strategic position made it a prosperous trading town and an essential stop on the Danube trade routes. Although heavily damaged during World War II, it was carefully rebuilt and restored. Today, Tulln is renowned for its elegant architecture, rich cultural heritage, and lush gardens, earning it the nickname "city of flowers." One of the world's largest wine estates awaits you on this exciting excursion to Gobelsburg Castle in Lower Austria. It was here that monks began producing wine in the 12th century, a tradition you will discover through a tour and tasting. Located about 80 km northwest of Vienna, Gobelsburg Castle is a Baroque wine estate producing red and white wines. Its winemaking tradition dates back to 1138, making it the oldest estate in the Danube basin. After a short transfer from Tulln, you will arrive at the castle complex to visit its remarkable state rooms, impressive vaulted cellars, and lush vineyards. You will learn more about the Moosbrugger family, the current owners of the estate, who have been cultivating the vines according to integrated organic farming principles for close to 30 years, before tasting their wines during a tasting session. Next, discover one of Austria's most important religious and cultural centers at the 12th-century Klosterneuburg Monastery, with a visit to its impressive treasury. Majestically overlooking the Danube Valley at the gates of Vienna, this Augustinian monastery is not only a spiritual center, but also the oldest and largest wine-growing estate in the country. Here you will see part of the Habsburg treasure, including the Archduke's cocked hat, the Verdun altarpiece, the seven-branched candelabra of St. Agnes, and other precious works of art. Accompanied by an expert guide, explore this vast monastic complex with its exceptional heritage. Finally, enjoy a panoramic cruise through the magnificent Wachau Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its spectacular landscapes and historic vineyards.
