Depart from the boat for a panoramic bus tour of the city of Trier. Discover Trier’s Roman cultural heritage, its views of the Moselle River, and its magnificent landscape. Trier is the oldest city in Germany; it was founded so long ago that it is 13 years... see+ older than Rome. Trier’s age is not its only claim to fame. It is best known for having been one of the seats of Roman imperial power, one of the major centers of early Christianity, and a vibrant medieval city. From these three periods, the city has preserved valuable architectural landmarks. The city tour continues on foot. Discover (exterior tours)the amphitheater: in terms of size, it ranks as the tenth largest in the entire Roman Empire. It could accommodate 30,000 spectators. Next, the imperial baths, which featured sumptuous interior design: marble-clad walls and floors, mosaics, wall frescoes, and statues. The entire complex of the thermal baths formed a square measuring 140 m by 250 m. We’ll continue on to the Roman basilica. Built around 310, the Constantinian basilica has been in continuous use ever since. From its inception, the building was imposing: 67 m long, 27 m wide, and 30 m high. Over time, numerous buildings were added to it. Finally, discover the famous Porta Nigra, which was designed to serve both as a fortress and as a monument (30 m high, 36 m wide, 22 m deep). Even Rome today does not have an ancient building of this size in such a well-preserved condition. Take a stroll through the city center, which bears the mark of the Middle Ages, particularly thanks to St. Peter’s Cathedral (exterior). Its oldest structures date back to 326, but the church’s overall layout was significantly altered in the 11th century. Also enjoy the atmosphere of the Market Square. With its distinctly Baroque style, located in the heart of downtown, the square also charms visitors with its mix of architectural styles. The old half-timbered houses blend beautifully with the classic pastel-colored homes, adorned with white stucco. At the end of your guided tour, you’ll have some free time to wander through the city at your leisure. Return to the ship by coach. NOTES Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. The order of the visits may be subject to change. Times are provided for informational purposes only.

It is distinguished by its graceful turrets topped with spires. It is one of the few German castles that, having been rebuilt after their destruction, still retain their original appearance today. After the castle tour, you’ll have somefree time to explore the town. The town of Cochem is well worth a visit, whether for its narrow, winding streets, its half-timbered houses with carefully restored slate roofs, the town hall square steeped in history, or its ancient walls, gates, and churches. During this tour, you’ll learn about the history of winemaking in... see+ the region and enjoy breathtaking views of Rüdesheim and the Rhine. The little train will then stop right in front of the historic Bassenheimer Hof winery, a 16th-century manor house, where you’ll take part in a wine tasting*. A winemaker from the Störzel family winery will guide you through a tasting of three wines—ranging from the driest to the sweetest—while sharing the history of the winery and viticulture in the Rüdesheim region, along with a few local anecdotes. After the tasting, you’ll head to the Museum of Mechanical Musical Instruments, located 100 meters from the winery. The “Siegfrieds Mechanisches Musikkabinett” is Germany’s first museum dedicated to mechanical musical instruments. From delicate music boxes to the colossal concert-piano orchestrions, no fewer than 350 automatic instruments are gathered here to form one of the largest and most beautiful collections from the 18th to the 20th century, displayed across more than 400 m². Visitors can also admire the tools and machines used to manufacture organ cylinders, music charts, note rollers, and music box plates. Regardless of their age, museum visitors always take great pleasure in discovering this unique music, the techniques of yesteryear, and how these instruments work. After your visit to the Museum of Mechanical Musical Instruments, you’ll have free time to make your way to the boat at your own pace or stroll through the narrow streets of Rüdesheim as you head down the famous Drosselgasse.NOTESBe sure to wear appropriate clothing for your visit to the Bassenheimer Hof.Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, as the narrow streets are cobblestone and sloped. After the tour, passengers have free time; they will return to the boat on their own, at their own pace, to enjoy the town. The order of the visits may be subject to change.Times are provided for informational purposes only.*Excessive alcohol consumption is harmful to your health; please drink responsibly.

Departure for the tour of Heidelberg. Romantic and idyllic, cosmopolitan and dynamic, mythical and modern: Heidelberg harmoniously combines all these elements that give it its unparalleled charm. Meet your guides at Heidelberg Castle, where they will show you... see+ around the exterior of this magnificent pink sandstone castle, now partially in ruins. Since the end of the 18th century, the castle ruins have inspired painters and poets, who saw them as a symbol of the grandeur and decadence of human works. Goethe, Hölderlin, Uhland, and Eichendorff celebrated the castle's landscape, while many painters chose it as their motif. Don't miss the barrel in the courtyard. It is one of the largest wooden barrels in the world and was once filled with wine. On the opposite wall, there is a pedestal with a statue representing the dwarf Perkeo.
