Crater Port Sakatia
Just a stone's throw from Nosy Be, Nosy Sakatia!
This island, located 1 nautical mile west of Nosy... see+ Be, is called the orchid island; it is home to a wide variety of tropical plants.
With around 250 inhabitants, they have created beautiful forest trails through plantations of ylang-ylang, vanilla, pepper, and coffee. Numerous chameleons and bats have made it their home. Very hilly, it offers beautiful panoramas from its heights.
The smell of toka gasy (traditional rum distilled in artisanal stills) lingers around the villages, inviting a moderate tasting. You can choose to anchor in front of a wild beach or in front of one of the two hotels (possibility of a day of big game fishing).
This short navigation brings you early to this beautiful island. You have the afternoon to enjoy and explore it at your leisure (swimming, snorkeling, walks, lounging...).

Departure from Nosy Sakatia to Nosy Fanihy.
This small island off the northern tip of Nosy Be... see+ offers an ideal stopover for lunch. The tour around this small island (1 km) reveals beautiful coral reefs, a discovery recommended for snorkeling. A very nice stretch of sand for sunbathing.
By skirting Nosy Be along the wild east coast, we reach Nosy Faly in the afternoon.
This 10 km² island offers a large bay bordered by a 3 km beach on its east coast. Nosy Faly has retained its authentic character, and its population is welcoming. The natural charm of its sites, its scents, its contrasts, and its colors will delight you.
The island is traversed by a central path that connects, in the shade of mango trees, 12 small traditional villages.

Nosy Faly Nosy Komba
Early departure towards Nosy Komba and its main village, Ampangorina. On the starboard side, the... see+ splendid primary forest of the Lokobé Reserve (on its way to becoming a national park) is the only original forest area remaining on the island of Nosy Be. It spans 740 hectares. This humid tropical rainforest plunges abruptly into the sea, offering striking contrasts of emerald and turquoise. There is a significant concentration of different species of lemurs, birds, and snakes.
A portion of the reserve is visited with a guide. Organization is possible by reservation, plan for half a day. Arrival in the quiet and family-friendly village of Ampangorina, with its beach lined with the tablecloths of embroiderers. This stop will allow you to make some handicraft purchases or buy vanilla.
Children and adults alike will be delighted to visit the maki (lemur) park, which are very sociable and love bananas.
For hikers, numerous hikes can be organized from Ampangorina. Depending on your preferences, anchor in front of the village for the night or to the south of the island, in front of the "Tsara Komba Lodge".
This less frequented anchorage offers the opportunity for a sunset cocktail in this charming hotel. It is also an excellent restaurant, reservation required 24 hours in advance. A warm welcome is always assured.

Nosy Komba Nosy Mamoko
Nosy Mamoko:
Always a quiet anchorage at Nosy Mamoko. Located in Ampasindava Bay, this is a sacred... see+ island. At anchor in front of the small fishing village, you'll find an abundance of squid. Many makis leap between the mango trees, and a huge turtle imported a hundred years ago from the Seychelles still lives here.
In the center of the village, ruins bear witness to ancient occupation. In the 18th century, a Swahili trading post was established here, including a mosque and two groups of houses. A lush equatorial forest occupies most of the island. Three nautical miles south of Nosy Mamoko, on the mainland, lies the beautiful village of Ambaliha, hidden at the bottom of a small estuary.
Ambaliha:
Starting point for a number of beautiful hikes (Ambaliha-grande cascade trek) to discover the pastoral populations of this mini "high plateau", through plantations, forgotten villages and waterfalls. Allow one day.

After leaving the... see+ islets of Kismany to port, walkers can be dropped off at Ampasimena for the Ampasimena - Baie des Russes trek. Continuing on to Ampohana, one of the region's most beautiful beaches. Here, too, you have the option of several hikes.
After a short sail, you enter the famous Baie des Russes (an inland sea measuring 8.5 x 6.5 km) for a final anchorage far from civilization. Sheltered by the Ankatafa peninsula, the marine environment is remarkable for its beauty and biodiversity. This region is famous for its dolphins, whale sharks and manta rays.
Humpback whales come up from Antarctica to mate and give birth in this area. Dinner on the boat or barbecue on the beach.
A little background information: Russian Bay owes its name to a Russian imperial squadron from St. Petersburg, which called here from December 1904 to March 1905. On March 16, 1905, the Russian squadron set sail for Japan, where it was decimated by the Japanese at Tsushima.

Activities

Included
Included
A short, refreshing walk along a pretty river with several pools for swimming. The ascent can be made either in the riverbed or along the banks. A loop is offered to return along another equally charming river.
Included
In front of Nosy Mamoko, the boat takes you between 30 minutes to the mouth of the Ambaliha River. At high tide, go up in a dinghy through the mangrove to the village. Depart on foot from this pretty village of fishermen and farmers hidden in a meander of the... see+ river. A short steep climb leads into a valley. Alternating forests and slash-and-burn agriculture. The path follows a stream shaded by large mango trees and bamboos. A steep climb (200 m elevation gain) leads to a ridge line. Very beautiful viewpoint overlooking the surrounding valleys. Gentle descent southwards to the "altitude" village of Ankobabe. Crossing of magnificent orchards (orange trees, lemon trees, coffee, bananas, cashews, mangoes...). Highly recommended tasting!!! Meeting with a warm population delighted to meet some intrepid vahazas!!! At the exit of the village, you cross a rice field and a river feeding the large waterfall. The descent to the sea begins, opening up a vast panorama of the bottom of Ampasindava Bay and the boat offshore, alone on the waves. On the left, several paths join the river and its beautiful waterfalls, offering a well-deserved bath. A short kilometer and we arrive at the coastal village of Ampasibitika and its boutre constructions. The dinghy awaits you on the beach.
Included
An extremely varied walk across the eastern peninsula of the Baie des Russes. We start from Ampasimena (or vice versa), a small fishing village on the edge of a beautiful sand spit, where our guide lives. In the direction of Ampasimena - Baie des Russes,... see+ after an ascent of around 1.5 km, we reach a ridge line which we follow in a south-westerly direction, along an undulating route. Several extraordinary views of Nosy Be bay and the islets of Kismany come to the fore. Halfway up, a high point offers a view of the Baie des Russes. A steep 1.5 km descent takes us to the magnificent village of Mahariha, set back from the coast. We then head towards the Marolay peninsula, crossing an area of mangroves. We follow a series of small valleys for 1 km, then skirt a beach. A final effort to climb a hill some 50 m high, and we arrive at the end of the peninsula, where the boat is waiting.
Included
A beautiful, varied loop around Ampohana Bay and its sumptuous beach, ideal for those who prefer to bask (or opt for flippers and mask to explore the coral reef just off the beach!!!). Perfect for kids). After a flat stretch behind the beach, the climb is... see+ gentle but continues to the ridgeline overlooking the Baie des Russes. You'll find a few rivers and lovely pools to cool off in! At the top of the ridge, an extraordinary view of the bay 100m below. The forest descending to the southeast is very well preserved, home to a multitude of Ravenala trees. The trail then descends gently to the south-east, then to the north, crossing a pretty valley dotted with pastures and cassava fields. You arrive on the other side of the village.
Around Ampohana, other shorter walks are also possible.
