Departure by coach with your guide to Volendam, a charming fishing village on the shores of the IJsselmeer, where locals are sometimes still dressed in traditional costumes. You’ll visit a cheese factory (in or near Volendam) to learn about the making of the famous round Dutch cheese: Gouda. Offered in various flavors and maturities, you’ll also get to taste it. Continue to Zaanse Schans, an open-air museum. Since 1950, regional buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries have been moved here to form a village along the Zaan River. Discover the making of the famous Dutch wooden clogs and their history, which dates back to the year 1200.

Overlooking... see+ the Scheldt River, the city's oldest building, the magnificent medieval castle Het Steen, was built between 1200 and 1225 to defend and protect the city from invaders. Now converted into "The Antwerp Story" museum, each of its rooms offers a surprising and original glimpse into the city's history. You will travel through history and the centuries as you explore the different rooms, discovering anecdotes, hidden secrets, and buildings that the city of Antwerp has to offer. The panoramic terrace offers a breathtaking view of the Scheldt, the city, and the port, the second largest in Europe. After this introduction, continue on to the historic center and the Grand Place. The Renaissance-style town hall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is undoubtedly the most remarkable building. The Grand Place is side-sailed by numerous richly decorated guild houses adorned with statues. In its center is the famous Brabo fountain and a few pitches away is the Cathedral of Our Lady of Antwerp, an architectural masterpiece of Gothic art, with its north tower and 123-meter topmast that has dominated the skyline for more than five centuries. - Experience: Antwerp, the Red Star Line Museum, and the Nottebohm Room. This morning, we will begin our discovery of Antwerp with the Grand Place, lined with elegant facades of old houses, and we will stop in front of the Town Hall (exterior), inspired by the Italian Renaissance. Then we will visit the Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library. Visit one of the most beautiful and prestigious libraries in Belgium. You will discover the Nottebohm Room, one of Antwerp's best-kept secrets. It is located in the oldest wing of the library, where it was converted into a ceremonial hall in 1936. Then visit the Red Star Line Museum, which traces the epic story of the great wave of emigration to the United States between 1850 and 1930.
Return to the ship for lunch and continue sailing towards Ghent. We will sail along the Scheldt River, passing a huge area of salt marshes, then the great plain before reaching the Terneuzen lock and the Ghent-Terneuzen canal. Arrival in Ghent in the evening.

Free time or optional authentic excursion/experience: the Delta Plan. Drive to the world's largest flood fender system, located on the territory and coastline of the Netherlands. Its purpose is to combat sea flooding, particularly in the provinces of Zeeland, South Holland, and North Brabant. The Delta Works is the result of several decades of work. It consists of five storm surge barriers, two sluices, and six dams. During the Delta Expedition, the impressive engineering structures of the Delta Works come to life. Departure by coach for a guided tour of the city. Amsterdam is one of the world's most extraordinary small cities. From its canals and world-famous museums to its many sights and historical treasures, Amsterdam is one of Europe's most romantic and surprising... see+ capitals. Stop at the Riecker Mill, a windmill located on the banks of the Amstel River to the south of the city. The mill was built in 1636 in the village of Sloten. Pumping of the polder water was taken over by an electric pumping station in 1932, and the mill was subsequently dismantled when the polder was dug up to create, among other things, Lake Het Nieuw Meer. In 1961, the mill was re-erected some 8 kilometers away on the banks of the Amstel, between the Kalfjeslaan and Borcht roads. The banks of the Amstel at this point are much frequented by tourists and walkers, and it's a prime location for an old Dutch windmill. A statue of Rembrandt has been erected next to the windmill as a reminder that the painter drew many pictures on the banks of this river. Then visit the famous flower market. You'll find thousands of fresh flowers, as well as bulbs of the famous tulip (with the gouda ball, probably the best idea for a souvenir gift), shrubs, plants... The countless varieties will make you dizzy. Return by coach.

Excursion to Volendam and Zaanse-Schans
Departure by coach for Volendam, a charming fishing village on the shores of the IJsselmeer, where some locals still wear traditional costumes. After watching a short film explaining the founding of the town and the construction of the dyke, you will have... see+ free time to explore the village and perhaps taste the local specialty: dried eel! Then you will visit a cheese factory (in or around Volendam) to discover how the famous round Dutch cheese — Gouda — is made. You’ll also be able to taste it, available in all sorts of flavors and ages: Baby Gouda or Old Gouda; cow’s milk or goat’s milk; plain, peppered, cumin, chili, or even smoked... these are just a few of the many possible flavors of this little cheese.
Continue by coach to visit Zaanse Schans, an open-air museum. Discover how the famous Dutch wooden clogs are made and learn about their history dating back to the year 1200! At first, they were just small wooden soles at the heel, evolving into hand-carved and painted models displayed in museums. And today? Clogs are still made, now mostly by machine. Before watching how they’re made, take some time to admire the incredible clog collection — from children’s clogs to wedding clogs. Enjoy some free time in the heart of this Dutch eco-museum to explore all its traditions: windmills, cheese, and typical houses. From 1950 onwards, windmills, houses, and regional utility buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries were moved here to form a village along the Zaan River.

Discover the beautifully preserved windmills of the historic village of Kinderdijk
Departure by coach to the Kinderdijk windmills. This is the only place in the world where you can see so many windmills together. This is one of the reasons why the Kinderdijk windmills have been listed as a World Heritage Site since 1997. The main function... see+ of the windmills was to pump out excess water. From the 11th century onwards, the peat-rich Alblasserwaard region (a natural region in the south-east of South Holland) was cleared. This primarily involved draining excess water from the peat soil into the surrounding rivers. Thousands of ditches were dug for this purpose in the neighboring meadows. However, drainage accentuated the subsidence of the peat, so that over time the inhabitants were forced to drain the water using wind force. This is why windmills appeared as early as the Middle Ages. Around 1868, steam and electric pumping stations took over from the mills, but even today the sails of the latter are still turning. There are 19 mills in total at the Kinderdijk mill site. It consists of eight stone mills in Nederwaard dating from 1738, eight wooden mills in Overwaard dating from 1740, two stone mills in the Nieuw-Lekkerland polder dating from 1760, and one mill in the Blokweer polder. The latter mill was built in 1521 and unfortunately destroyed by fire in 1997. Every effort has been made to restore the mill to its original condition. A visit to one of the mills will give you an idea of the life and work of a miller.NOTESThe order of visits may be changed.The times are given as a guide only.
