Longyearbyen Isfjorden
Your expedition begins in Longyearbyen, the main town in Svalbard and the gateway to the High... see+ Arctic. After boarding the ship, you’ll set sail for the vast polar wilderness. The voyage first follows the northern coast of Isfjorden, the largest fjord in western Spitsbergen, before reaching its mouth. These nutrient-rich waters attract a wealth of marine life and are a prime spot for whale watching. With a little luck, you’ll be able to spot several species of cetaceans swimming in this magnificent setting, surrounded by mountains, glaciers, and the vast Arctic wilderness.

Isfjorden Kongsfjorden Krossfjord
Depending on sailing conditions, the expedition explores Kongsfjorden (King’s Bay) or... see+ Krossfjorden (Cross Bay), two of Spitsbergen’s most beautiful fjords. Dominated by immense glaciers that flow directly into the sea, these magnificent landscapes give rise to numerous icebergs that drift slowly through the Arctic waters.

The wild coastlines of these fjords are home to remarkable wildlife. It is common to spot seals, Svalbard reindeer, arctic foxes, and numerous colonies of seabirds nesting on the surrounding cliffs.

Beyond their natural riches, these bays are also steeped in history. They bear witness to the passage of European whalers, scientific and polar expeditions—notably those supported by Albert I of Monaco, a pioneer of oceanographic exploration—as well as the events that marked World War II in the Svalbard archipelago. Amid this majestic scenery, an impressive glacier descends between jagged mountain ridges before flowing into the sea, giving rise to numerous icebergs. The beaches of the neighboring islands regularly host colonies of walruses, which can often be seen resting on the shore, while the surrounding waters are home to a rich array of Arctic wildlife.
