Oslo Longyearbyen
After a flight from Oslo, your adventure begins with an overnight stay in the world's most... see+ northerly town: Longyearbyen.
A colourful frontier settlement with more snowmobiles than people, Longyearbyen is a unique place on the edge of the Arctic wilderness. If you have a bit of time to spare, set off to discover it before enjoying a free, quiet evening.

Longyearbyen
After breakfast, it's time to discover Longyearbyen, which is ideal for a walking tour. Take a... see+ stroll along the main street, where you might spot a Spitsbergen reindeer roaming around. A wild animal that is very curious and not afraid of humans.
Before boarding the ship in the afternoon and continuing your discovery of the Arctic, take part in an included excursion and be amazed by this astonishing region inspired by polar bears at the top of the world. Longyearbyen Ny Alesund
Today you'll discover the serenity of Ny-Ålesund, a former mining town and one of the most... see+ northerly communities in the world, strategically located at the entrance to the magnificent Kongsfjord.
Coal deposits were claimed here in 1909. Mining began shortly afterwards with the support of investors from the Norwegian town of Ålesund, hence the name Ny-Ålesund. After operations ceased in 1962, the town was abandoned to its fate, until polar scientists realised that it would make a fantastic base for all kinds of Arctic research.
Today, it is an international centre for climate science and research, including China's Yellow River Station. You can still see remnants of the town's history, closely linked to Roald Amundsen's expeditions north with the airship ‘Norge’.
Enjoy a real day's break, as the proximity of the Norwegian Mapping Authority's geodetic station means we have to turn off our Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
