Remire Cousin Curieuse
Arrival early in the morning
Departure late in the afternoon

Located west of Praslin, this... see+ small granite islet—covering about 30 hectares—is teeming with life. Privately owned until 1968, Cousin Island was purchased by the National Council for the Protection of Birds to be transformed into a nature reserve. The primary goal of this initiative was to save the Seychelles warbler and the toc toc, two bird species threatened with extinction. This effort was a resounding success, as the island is now the most protected in the archipelago, home to a large number of plants and animals endemic to the Seychelles.

Arrival in the evening
Departure in the evening

Located in the open sea off the coast of Praslin, Curieuse is characterized by its reddish soil. Discovered in 1768 by the French explorer Marc-Joseph Marion du Fresne, it was ravaged by a fire in 1771 and later housed a leper colony, some remnants of which can still be seen. Designated a marine national park in 1979, it is home to numerous marine species, which you can discover while scuba diving or snorkeling in the idyllic waters of the Indian Ocean. But Curieuse is best known for the hundreds of Aldabra giant tortoises that live there, fascinating reptiles you’re sure to encounter. It’s also the only island, along with Praslin, where the coco de mer grows in the wild.
