Take advantage of the Anseremme-Dinant yacht charter to discover the most beautiful attractions of the province of Namur in a rural setting. From Dinant, follow the peaceful course of the Meuse to reach Anseremme, the point of arrival of the Lesse kayak descent.
Your cruise along the Meuse
Located 4 km from the town of Dinant, Anseremme stands out on the right bank of the Meuse. The entrance to the commune of Anseremme is marked by the passage under the Charlemagne viaduct. This spans the Meuse at a height of over 80 meters and is considered the highest in Belgium. Not far away stands the Anseremme viaduct, a 300-meter-long railroad deck overlooking the tip of Moniat Island. This small island is of great interest from a botanical point of view. Opposite the island of Moniat stands a former priory that was the property of the Abbey of Saint-Hubert. It has a magnificent park, restored in the 16th century. Adjacent to the priory, you can see the remains of an old parish church dating from the 18th century.
Continuing your excursion on the Meuse, with a long cycle path on one side and high cliffs offering you a little privacy on the other, you will reach the Saint-Jean bridge and the Anseremme marina. It is not far from the Saint-Jean deck that the Lesse waters-jet-flow into the Meuse. At the bend of the Lesse meander stands the solitary Walzin castle. Perched on the point of a rocky outcrop more than 50 meters high since the 11th century, this castle will undoubtedly awaken your artistic side.
You can of course take a cruise in the opposite direction and set foot in the town of Dinant, dominated by the 40-meter-high Bayard rock. People mainly visit Dinant for its valuable historical heritage, such as the Collégiale Notre-Dame de Dinant, but also to experience kayaking down the Lesse.
Kayaking down the Lesse
Kayaking down the Lesse, over 12 or 21 km, is one of the activities not to be missed in the Walloon Region. With family or friends, the descent will take you through an untamed landscape punctuated by pebble beaches, a medieval castle, and prehistoric caves and caverns carved out by the Lesse, such as the Trou du Frontal. On the banks of the Lesse lies Furfooz nature park, where you can veer off on a short invigorating walk to discover its natural and archaeological heritage. The park is home to a fortress and the remains of thermal baths dating from Roman times, restored in 1958.
The descent of the Lesse will also be a pleasant alternative for visiting a few picturesque villages such as Han-sur-Lesse or Houyet before reaching the commune of Anseremme, which will bring this pleasant kayak excursion to a close. Whatever your stopover, don't forget to try some of Dinant's specialties, such as the couque de Dinant (a kind of shortbread) or the Flamiche, a delicious cheese tart.
