Ibiza catamaran charter with or without skipper

Last updated on 30 May 2026

The types of catamaran to charter in Ibiza

Depending on your budget, the size of your crew and your sailing plans, several types of catamaran are available to you in Ibiza:

  • The catamaran between 30 and 40 feet: ideal for a crew of 6 to 8 people. More affordable than the larger models, it already offers far greater stability and living space than an equivalent monohull sailboat. In Ibiza, models such as the Lagoon 40, the Lucia 40 or the Aventura 37 are among the most sought-after.
  • The catamaran between 40 and 50 feet: the most common configuration in Ibiza for groups of 8 to 10 people. It offers an excellent balance of comfort, space and budget, with spacious cabins and generous outdoor living areas. The Lagoon 42, the Bali Catspace, the Lagoon 450F and the Aventura 45 are very well represented.
  • The luxury catamaran (50 feet and over): for those who wish to sail aboard a high-end boat with premium finishes. These large models, such as the Aura 51, the Lagoon 51 or the Lagoon 620, generally come with a professional crew and offer a standard close to luxury yachting — highly prized on a destination as lively as Ibiza.

The services offered for your catamaran charter in Ibiza

Here are the different options we offer for chartering a catamaran in Ibiza:

  • The bareboat catamaran charter: if a member of your crew has sufficient sailing experience, they will be able to handle the catamaran. The boat will be entirely private and you can enjoy your cruise in Ibiza with the family or with friends, at your own pace and as you wish.
  • The skippered catamaran charter: this is the ideal option if no one in your crew can handle the navigation, or if you simply want to relax and enjoy the scenery. The professional skipper takes charge of handling the boat and shares with you their in-depth knowledge of the Balearics, of the finest anchorages in Ibiza and Formentera and of the must-visit restaurants.
  • The fully crewed catamaran charter: on luxury catamarans, a crew made up of a captain, a cook and a hostess will be at your service to guarantee an unforgettable cruise. This option can also be added on certain catamarans between 12 and 20 meters.
  • The cabin cruise on a catamaran: you book a cabin aboard a high-end, human-sized catamaran which you share with other travelers and a professional crew responsible for navigation, cooking and the on-board hospitality service. This is the ideal option if you wish to travel as a couple or if you do not have the budget to charter an entire catamaran.

How much does a catamaran charter in Ibiza cost?

The table below gives you an idea of the average prices for chartering a catamaran for a week in Ibiza. These prices may vary depending on the season, availability, the model and the age of the catamaran.

Catamaran (between 40 and 50 feet)€11,000€6,500€4,000
Luxury catamaran (50 feet and over)On requestOn requestOn request

As a guide, on filovent.com the entry-level catamarans in Ibiza start at around €3,400 per week as a bareboat charter in low season (Lagoon 40, Lucia 40), while the large crewed models can exceed €13,000.

The price includes: the charter of the catamaran and the main on-board equipment (the sails, the dishware, the wifi, the dinghy, the bedding and the outboard engine).

The price does not include: insurance, port and mooring fees, the skipper, the hostess, cleaning (often included in a mandatory pack), extras (kayak, SUP paddle, etc.) and provisioning.

If you wish to charter a luxury catamaran in Ibiza, we invite you to contact us directly to obtain the rate list. The price range for this type of model is indeed very wide. Lina, our specialist for the crewed and luxury boats segment, will be able to send you the best offers.

We recommend taking out our cancellation insurance for your boat charter in Ibiza. It covers all crew members, whereas individual cancellation insurance or coverage via your bank card only protects the holder.

We also encourage our clients to take out the deposit waiver insurance. On a catamaran, mishaps happen even to the best sailors. This insurance allows you to recover a significant part of your deposit in the event of navigation-related damage.

Where to sail by catamaran in Ibiza?

Four main sailing areas are available to you by catamaran departing from Ibiza:

  • The south of Ibiza and Es Vedrà. This is the most iconic area of the island. You can anchor off Cala d'Hort facing the legendary rock of Es Vedrà, enjoy the Ses Salines nature park and its translucent waters, and savor the most famous sunsets in the Balearics.
  • Formentera to the south of Ibiza. Less than an hour's sail away, this small island offers the finest turquoise waters in the Mediterranean. Don't miss the beach of Ses Illetes, the lagoon of the Espalmador islet, Cala Saona and the marina of La Savina.
  • The west and Sant Antoni. An area renowned for its family-friendly coves and its sunsets. Here you will find Cala Conta, Cala Bassa, Cala Salada as well as the lively bay of Sant Antoni de Portmany, one of our departure ports.
  • The north of Ibiza. This is the wildest area and the least crowded in summer. On the agenda: Cala Benirràs and its drumming sunsets, the coves of Portinatx and Cala Xarraca, as well as the Can Marçà caves.

For a two-week cruise, it is entirely possible to push on to Mallorca, via Sant Elm and Puerto Andratx, after a crossing of a few hours under sail.

When to go on a catamaran cruise in Ibiza?

Ibiza's warm, sunny Mediterranean climate makes it an excellent destination for catamaran sailing from April to October. In summer, the air temperature ranges between 25°C and 30°C. The water temperature is around 25°C and stays pleasant until October thanks to the thermal inertia of the Mediterranean.

Here is an average of the temperatures recorded in recent years in Ibiza:

TemperaturesJanFebMarAprMayJunJulAugSepOctNovDec
Air min (°C)11°14°18°21°22°19°16°12°
Air max (°C)15°15°17°19°22°26°29°30°27°23°19°16°
Sea water (°C)15°14°14°15°17°21°25°26°25°22°19°16°

In summer, the winds generally remain moderate, which provides very favorable sailing conditions throughout the summer season.

Sailing conditions by catamaran in Ibiza

Sailing in the Balearics is reputed to be easy in summer, with moderate winds and short crossings between Ibiza and Formentera, mostly within sight of land. The catamaran, thanks to its stability and low heeling, is particularly suited to these conditions and is just as suitable for experienced sailors as for crews discovering sailing.

The prevailing summer wind is the Embat, a southwesterly thermal breeze that picks up in the afternoon and drops in the evening. In spring and fall, the Tramontana and the Mistral, cold winds from the north to northwest coming off the Gulf of Lion, can blow more strongly for short periods. The Llevant (easterly wind) and the Xaloc or Sirocco (a warm southeasterly wind from Africa) complete the archipelago's wind rose.

The climate is warm and dry from May to September. The air temperature varies between 22°C and 30°C, while the water temperature is generally above 21°C. The passages between Ibiza and Formentera are short and within sight of land.

The documents required to charter a bareboat catamaran in Ibiza

For a bareboat catamaran charter in Ibiza, you will need a valid boating license (a coastal license as a minimum, an offshore license recommended for the large catamarans) as well as, in most cases, a VHF radio operator's certificate. The charter company will also ask you to provide a sailing résumé detailing your experience, the boats you have already skippered and your sailing areas. This document must be uploaded to your client area for validation before the charter is confirmed. If you have any doubts about your level, do not hesitate to discuss it with your Filovent advisor.

Useful information for your catamaran charter in Ibiza

What language is spoken in Ibiza?

The official languages are Catalan (in its local variant, Eivissenc) and Castilian (Spanish). English is very widely spoken in the marinas, the ports and the tourist areas.

What currency is used in Ibiza?

The currency used in Ibiza, as throughout Spain, is the euro (€).

How to get to Ibiza?

Numerous direct flights serve Ibiza airport (IBZ) from the main European cities, particularly in the summer season. It is also possible to reach the island by ferry from Dénia, Valencia, Barcelona or Palma de Mallorca. The departure ports are located close to the town: Marina Ibiza, Talamanca and Sant Antoni de Portmany.

How do I finalize the booking of my catamaran in Ibiza?

Once we have received your charter request, an advisor will contact you by phone to understand your sailing plans. They will then send you catamaran proposals by email. Once the boat has been found, you can pay a deposit in your client area to validate the charter and secure the boat.

Can you sail between Ibiza, Formentera and Mallorca?

Yes. The crossing between Ibiza and Formentera only requires around an hour's sailing and is done within sight of land: it is the most classic itinerary for a one-week cruise. To reach Mallorca, however, you should allow for a crossing of several hours, better planned over a two-week cruise and in good weather conditions.

Are there mooring rules to respect in Ibiza and Formentera?

Yes, and it is essential. The Posidonia seagrass meadows, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are strictly protected around Ibiza and Formentera. Anchoring on these seabeds is prohibited and subject to fines: in several areas (in particular the Ses Salines nature park and the waters of Formentera), it is mandatory to use the eco-friendly buoys provided for this purpose, which are often chargeable and should be booked in advance in high season. Your Filovent advisor and your skipper will guide you toward the authorized anchorages.
