A popular tourist destination since the end of the 19th century, Flam is known for its centuries-old farms and for its train, which runs along one of the steepest lines in the world. Optional excursion:
The little Flam train: (full day with lunch) departure by coach along the Naeroyfjord for a ride through the splendid mountain plateaus, stopping en route at the spectacular Tvinde waterfall. Arrive in Voss for lunch, then take the train to Myrdal. Finally, return to Flam by the only railroad, stopping en route to enjoy a view of the Kjosfossen waterfall. Between steep valleys, snow-capped mountains and rivers, you'll pass through almost 20 tunnels. Limited places - Price per person (from): €180.
Mini-cruise in the Naeroyfjord: embark on a mini-cruise in this spectacular, narrow fjord, where cruise ships cannot go. Surrounded by steep, snow-capped mountains, it is considered one of the most beautiful fjord landscapes in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once you've reached the most picturesque part of the fjord, the boat switches to electric power for virtually silent cruising through unspoiled nature. Jostedal and the Glacier Museum (full day with lunch): departure by coach through the splendid landscapes of the Jostedal National Park, passing through picturesque villages and ending with a tunnel built under the glacier. Visit the Norwegian Glacier Museum, which traces the history of glaciers and explains how they have sculpted the landscape. Remarkably well-designed, it houses the tusk of a Siberian mammoth caught in the ice 30,000 years ago. Discover Boyabreen, one of the arms of continental Europe's largest glacier, the Jostedalsbreen. Lunch at a restaurant in Skei and free time to explore the village. On the way back, stop at Mount Utvik to admire the view. Price per person (from): €150.

Olden Geiranger

The Fjord Route (full day with lunch): departing from Geiranger, drive to Mount Dalsnibba, 1,500 m above sea level, across a plateau dotted with farms, waterfalls and lakes, for a breathtaking view of the Geiranger Fjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The walk continues to the village of Stryn, whose river is renowned for its salmon fishing. After lunch, discover the splendid scenery and numerous waterfalls. The winding road leads to Lake Hornindal, the deepest lake in Northern Europe, a veritable mirror in a green setting. Arrive in Hellesylt and return by ferry to Geiranger. Or the Eagles' Highway and Hrdal Valley: set off for a breathtaking landscape of rugged mountains, waterfalls, deep fjords and fertile valleys. The Route des Aigles, with its 11 hairpin bends, is breathtaking and vertiginous. Stop at the Eagle Bend for a magnificent panorama of the Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Continue through exceptional landscapes of snow-capped mountains and lush green valleys to the charming village of Eidsdal on the Storfjord. Or ascent of Mount Dalsnibba: take the Nibbevegen road to reach the summit of Mount Dalsnibba at 1,495 m altitude. On the way, enjoy magnificent views over the dark waters of the fjord dominated by cliffs. Reaching Lake Djupvatnet at an altitude of 1,000 m, the scenery changes to a world of raw rock, ice and snow. The Atlantic Highway and Kvernes Church: built on several small islands and reefs, the Atlantic Highway crosses eight bridges over an 8.2-km stretch of spectacular coastal scenery. A true architectural feat, it was voted Norwegian construction of the century. Depart for the island of Averoy along the Hustadvika coast, whose offshore waters are renowned for their adventurous nature. Visit the early 14th-century standing-wood church of Kvernes. It features a Baroque pulpit and various decorations, including a royal monogram. Price per person (from): €80.
Or discover Kristiansund: Kristiansund is a small municipality spread over four main islands, with one of the highest population densities in Norway. It owes its development and prosperity to the “Klippfisk” dried cod trade. Visit the museum, which traces the history of this local specialty, and enjoy a tasting. Discover Trondheim: en route for a visit to the splendid Sverresborg open-air museum, whose buildings bear witness to Norwegian life through the centuries. The journey continues to Trondheim for a visit to Nidaros Cathedral, built in 1070 over the tomb of King Olaf. The oldest parts of the cathedral date back to the 12th century. Richly decorated with wooden sculptures and magnificent stained-glass windows, it is the largest medieval building in Scandinavia. A viewpoint stop is included to enjoy panoramic views of the fjord and countryside. Price per person (from): €70.
Nidaros Cathedral and Ringve Museum: departure for a panoramic tour of the city center. Visit Nidaros Cathedral, one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in Northern Europe, built in 1070 over the tomb of King Olaf. Then drive through beautiful countryside to the Ringve Museum of Music, located on a hill outside Trondheim with breathtaking views of the city and fjords. The museum was built in 1860 and houses over 2,000 musical instruments from all over the world, as well as a collection of treasures from the history of European music. Vestvagoy Island and Viking Museum - Half day : tour of Vestvagoy Island to discover its striking contrast between rich farmland and beautiful white sandy beach, a rugged landscape of rocks and mountains... Continuation to Borg for a visit to the Viking Museum. This is where important remains from the Viking period were discovered, including the largest house ever found (83 m long and 9 m high). A replica has been built right next to the excavations, to represent the settlement around the year 900. On the way back, stop off at Unstad for a magnificent panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean. Flakstad, Reine and A: departure through the splendid Lofoten landscapes, passing through Flakstad and its church built in 1780 from driftwood, typical of Norway. Discovery of the fishing village of Reine, surrounded by splendid nature and set at the foot of steep cliffs, considered one of the most beautiful in Norway. Continuation to Å, for many years a traditional fishing village specializing in dried fish. Today, most of the buildings are museums. Or discover the island of Mageroya: a 2.5-hour drive from Honningsvag along the Skipsfjord through the island's magnificent scenery to the village of Skarsvag. Visit the “winter and Christmas house”, picturesquely decorated all year round in traditional Norwegian style. If conditions permit, stop off at a viewpoint en route to catch a glimpse of the tip of the North Cape. Continue on to discover the fishing hamlet of Kamoyvaer. Or Gjesvaerstappan nature reserve by boat: departure by coach for Gjesvaer and boarding of a local boat for a trip of around 1h30. Discover the Gjesvaerstappan nature reserve and its cliffs, a veritable ornithological paradise in Norway. This archipelago is home to the largest puffin colony in the Finnmark region and an impressive variety of bird species: guillemots, gannets, cormorants, great skuas, penguins...
