Activities

As Cape Verde’s easternmost and third-largest island, Boa Vista truly lives up to its name, which means “beautiful view.” Life on this island is authentic, and its landscape is characterized by vast, desert-like expanses of sand and rocky... see+ terrain.
During our excursion, we pass through small villages, offering a glimpse into daily life and the island’s unique natural environment. Our exploration begins in Sal Rei, where we stroll through the streets to soak up the atmosphere of the capital.
We then continue on to Rabil to visit a local traditional pottery school, where we can watch artisans create decorative pieces from local clay.
Then, we take a short drive to the Viana Desert (short stop). Continuing south through dry, arid landscapes, we’ll have the opportunity to swim in the ocean at the natural beach of Santa Monica, weather permitting.
Following the beach and sand dunes, we arrive at our local lunch spot close to Sal Rei.
The final point of interest on our excursion is a visit to the shipwreck on Santa Maria Beach, before returning to the ship.

Not included $113 / pers.
The tour begins with a visit to the “Plateau,” the heart of Praia, the bustling capital of the Cape Verde Islands. We’ll explore Alexandre de Albuquerque Square, surrounded by historic buildings showcasing colonial architecture, such as the Palace of... see+ Justice, the Nossa Senhora Church (dating from 1900), City Hall, the Ildo Lobo Palace of Culture, the markets, and the Miradouro pedestrian shopping street.
A 30-minute drive will then take us to Cidade Velha (formerly Ribeira Grande), Cape Verde’s first capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Once there, we’ll visit the São Filipe Fortress, stroll through the village, and explore the Pelourinho, where slaves were once sold to the Americas. We’ll also explore the ruins of the cathedral, the Nossa Senhora do Rosário Church, and “Rua de Banana,” the oldest street in the entire archipelago.

Not included $67 / pers.
A visit to Fogo Natural Park is a must to experience Cape Verde’s top attraction and one of the most impressive landscapes in the world.
We begin our tour in São Filipe, at the main square of Presídio, then continue on to the “colorful market,” which... see+ offers a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. We then pass by City Hall and numerous historic sobrados (colonial houses), some of which have already been restored.
We depart from São Filipe with our first stop in Forno, where we explore an area utilizing a drip irrigation system—a technique adopted by the island’s farmers to mitigate the effects of drought.
We continue to Achada Furna, where we meet the communities living in new homes built for the residents of Chã das Caldeiras following the 1995 and 2014 eruptions, although many have returned to live in the caldera.
We proceed to Cabeça Fundão, which offers a beautiful view of ancient craters and a landscape of varied colors.
Finally, we arrive at the entrance to the Chã das Caldeiras Natural Park to enjoy a spectacular view from the highest point in Cape Verde. We visit one of the two villages destroyed during the 2014/2015 eruption: 98% of the homes, schools, restaurants, and hotels were destroyed, but the residents have returned, strong and determined to rebuild everything.
Lunch is planned at Marisa’s (or similar), featuring a tasting of traditional Chã das Caldeiras wine as well as a robust local red wine called Manecon. You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase some of the world’s finest coffee before returning to the ship.

Not included $101 / pers.
São Vicente is known not only for its cultural hub, Mindelo, but also for its beaches and the stunning landscapes that surround the island. We set out to explore this magnificent island.
The tour begins with a short bus tour of the city. The first stop is... see+ at Monte Verde Natural Park, the island’s highest point (744 m), where you can observe birdlife (not guaranteed) and, above all, enjoy a spectacular view of the entire island.
Our second stop is in Salamansa, a small fishing village with a beautiful white-sand beach. If sea conditions permit, a short swim is possible.
We continue along the east coast, with its road lined with sand dunes. In Calhau, we stop for a walk through the village and then visit a natural pool surrounded by volcanic landscapes.
In the Calhau Valley, farmers grow vegetables and fruits despite the island’s dry climate.
On the way back to Mindelo, we stop at the cemetery to learn more about the famous singer Cesária Évora and visit her grave.
The tour ends with a cocktail at the Mindelo International Marina, the hub for yachts and sailboats in Cape Verde.

Not included $81 / pers.
Discover the highlights of Santo Antão on this full-day excursion.
We begin by driving along the famous new coastal road to Cidade da Pombas, then venture into the Paul Valley, a true green gem among the villages and valleys of Santo Antão. After exploring... see+ the traditional rural villages, we’ll take a short morning break at a higher elevation before setting off on a brief walk through the lush valley.
There, you’ll see sugarcane plantations and visit a family-run distillery to taste “grogue,” the local white rum made from sugarcane, with the option to purchase a few bottles.
Continuing along the coastal road, we arrive at Ponta do Sol, the fishing port of Santo Antão. After a short walk, we’ll enjoy lunch in a rural setting, featuring local specialties such as breadfruit and sweet potatoes.
The journey continues along the old mountain road, passing through Ribeira de Torre, Água das Caldeiras, and the Corda caldera, one of the absolute points of the excursion. We then descend toward Porto Novo. Before returning to the ship, we’ll have the opportunity to admire the results of a mural painting contest held a few years ago.
The excursion to Santo Antão highlights the striking contrast between the arid southern region, the forested highlands, and the lush vegetation of the north. An excursion not to be missed under any circumstances!

Not included $114 / pers.
Discover the southwestern part of the island on this tour exploring volcanic landscapes and porcelain fields. You’ll encounter charming, secluded villages where residents practice terraced farming and cultivate a variety of crops.
This excursion is ideal... see+ for lovers of volcanic landscapes who wish to observe the results of various eruptions over time, which have created unusual basalt rock formations and deep canyons of unique beauty.
In the Sul region, we’ll explore the different layers of ancient volcanic activity. The road runs along the Chã de Morte Canyon and leads to a point overlooking a small village nestled inside the canyon, where residents transport their goods using a small, steep steel cable car.
As you follow the road toward the mountains, you’ll discover a typical landscape, marked not only by unique crops but also by the striking contrast of the black volcanic rocks.
In Forquilha, we’ll enjoy a magnificent view of Alto Mira and Ribeira das Patas.
Heading back down toward the coast, we’ll observe the daily life of the locals and their traditional methods of working the land.
