Breakfast at the hotel, followed by a full-day excursion to the Valley of the Kings and its UNESCO... see+ World Heritage archaeological site. Famous for housing the tombs of the pharaohs, the valley contains around 63 tombs and chambers scattered at the foot of a rocky mountain. The tombs are decorated with religious scenes, including texts and illustrations from the Book of the Dead, the Book of Gates and other funerary texts. This is an essential site for understanding the history of the pharaohs and the importance they attached to the afterlife. You will visit 4 tombs, including that of Seti I, one of the most impressive. Discovered in 1817, archaeologists were astounded by the splendour of its decorations.
Next, a visit to the Temple of Hatshepsut, one of the most impressive and best-preserved monuments in ancient Egypt. This sumptuous mortuary temple carved out of the mountain represents not only the grandeur and ambition of Queen Hatshepsut, but also the artistic and architectural advances of her time.
Lunch at the restaurant. Afternoon at leisure at the Winter Palace, an experience of luxury and relaxation, steeped in the historic elegance of Egypt. The religious heart of ancient Egypt and witness to the grandeur and splendour of the pharaohs, the temple is famous for its gigantic columns, majestic obelisks, sanctuaries dedicated to the gods, and incredible reliefs and hieroglyphs.
It's time to board your dahabieh, a traditional Egyptian boat with an elegant, elongated silhouette. This charming boat will provide you with optimum comfort throughout your stay.
As you are welcomed on board by the crew, you will be offered a damp towel scented with rosewater to refresh you, and as a sign of welcome you will be served a glass of fresh carcadé (an Egyptian speciality made from an infusion of hibiscus flowers) or freshly squeezed lemon juice. You'll enjoy it on the shaded deck, seated in deckchairs or stretched out on cushions in the shade of stretched canvas, taking in the scenery on the banks of the Nile. Settle into your cabins before your first lunch on board. Enjoy the atmosphere of the dahabieh as you cruise peacefully on the calm waters of the Nile towards El Hegz. A short sail to El Kaab. At first light, the Nile gently awakens as the dahabieh glides silently... see+ down the river. On deck, the first rays of the sun begin to warm the cool morning air. You sit back with a cup of tea or coffee, enjoying this special moment.
Excursion included: visit to El Kaab. A 5,000-year-old city with even older traces of habitation, El Kaab is surrounded by enormous mud-brick walls. Founded in Predynastic times, it is home to the famous temple of Nekhbet, dedicated to the vulture goddess and protector of Upper Egypt, as well as the necropolis of Qurnet Murai, where nobles and kings are buried. The monuments of El-Kaab, adorned with reliefs and hieroglyphic inscriptions, illustrate the architectural and cultural evolution of ancient Egypt through the dynasties.
Afternoon sailing to Fawaza. As you travel up the Nile, you pass through spectacular natural landscapes, with swaying palm trees, green fields and sometimes sheer cliffs. You'll pass picturesque villages where the daily lives of the locals offer an authentic glimpse of rural life in Egypt. You can enjoy the tranquillity of the river, read a book on the deck of the dahabieh, or simply relax and watch the banks and aquatic life go by.
Barbecue dinner on the island of Fawaza. The natural setting of this stopover is enhanced by a few lights to create a festive atmosphere. In keeping with tradition, the boat's crew light a fire, sing and dance to the rhythm of the ‘Darbouka’ drums. Night on board.

Bassaw is... see+ renowned for its colourful houses and sandy streets, but above all for the warm welcome it receives from its inhabitants. You'll have the chance to try your hand at traditional fishing with the local fishermen in their small boats, where you'll be free to tease the Nile perch and other fish.
Sailing to Gebel Silsileh.
Afternoon excursion included: Gebel Silsileh and the temple of Horemheb. This is where the Nile reaches its narrowest point, winding its way between sheer sandstone cliffs. Throughout the New Kingdom and Greco-Roman periods, thousands of men worked in the Silsila quarries to extract the sandstone used to build the temples. The site is home to remains such as the Temple of Horemheb and chapels adorned with stelae.

Beshir Kom Ombo Herdiab

The temple stands on a promontory overlooking a meander in the Nile where crocodiles once populated the banks. Built like an acropolis in a spectacular setting, the sandstone temple dates back to the Ptolemaic era.

Afternoon stroll through the village of Herdiab, one of the few on the Nile to have preserved the traditional methods of growing sugar cane and fruit trees.

After the first dam was built, the temple of Philae was swallowed up by the reservoir for a period of 30 years, from 1934 to 1964. In 1960, the construction of the High Dam doomed the temple to total disappearance. Under the aegis of UNESCO, the temple was cut into blocks and rebuilt on the nearby island of Agilka. It has now been restored to its original layout. Dedicated to Isis, sister and wife of Osiris and mother of Horus, the temple of Philae is the ‘Pearl of Egypt’.

Visit to the site of Abu Simbel(1). Discovering this... see+ Nubian masterpiece is one of the most moving moments of a trip to Egypt. Located 270 km (3 hours' drive) south of Aswan, the Abu Simbel complex in the middle of the desert, at the gateway to Sudan, is the most impressive of the stone testaments left by Ramses II.

Visit the monastery of Saint Simeon, a historic gem nestling on the west bank of the Nile. On arrival, you will be struck by the atmosphere of peace and solitude that pervades this sacred site. The partly restored ruins of the monastery stand majestically against the blue sky, their brick walls and columns bearing witness to their former grandeur. You'll discover the monastery's main church, adorned with Christian frescoes and wall paintings dating back to the first centuries of its existence. The chapels, monks' cells and other monastic structures offer a fascinating insight into the daily life of Coptic monks at that time.
Lunch at the Old Cataract 5*NL hotel restaurant. Afternoon at leisure to discover Aswan. You are free to visit the Nubia Museum or wander through the narrow streets of the souk. In the middle of the afternoon, check into the Old Cataract 5*NL(3-5) hotel, situated on a pink granite cliff overlooking the Nile, offering spectacular views of the river and Elephantine Island. Its name ‘Old Cataract’ comes from the rapids or cataracts just upstream on the Nile. It has played host to many famous personalities, including Winston Churchill, who stayed here on several occasions, and Agatha Christie, who wrote part of her famous novel ‘Death on the Nile’ here. From the terrace, you can admire the sunset, a memorable moment in a romantic and timeless atmosphere.

When the... see+ Aswan Dam was built in 1970 and Lake Nasser buried some of the sites where the Nubians lived, UNESCO and the Egyptian government reached an agreement to build the Nubia Museum, designed to preserve Nubian culture and maintain its heritage. It houses a vast collection of more than 3,000 objects, ranging from prehistoric times to the Islamic era, via the Pharaonic, Greek, Roman and Christian periods.
