Assouan The Summary
Meet at your hotel or at Aswan airport around 8 a.m. for the visits: - Kalabsha Temple: built in... see+ the Greco-Roman style, with colonnaded walls and composite capitals. The walls are decorated with bas-reliefs and numerous hieroglyphic texts. The main god, Mandoulis, is represented in the form of a falcon, assimilated to Horus (son of Isis and Osiris).

- Kertassi Kiosk: the remains of a small temple dedicated to Isis, probably built during the reign of Trajan (98-117 AD) by the architects of Philae. Only four columns with composite capitals and two Hathoric pillars remain. Its current location on a slight elevation reproduces the impression it gave at its original site. - Beit el-Ouali: a small temple located north of the Kalabsha Pass, built under Ramses II. An entrance flanked by two towers leads to a courtyard, then to a vestibule and finally to a sanctuary carved into the rock.

After the visits, return to the side of the boat for lunch, then sail to El Ekhtessara. Overnight on the side of the boat at El Ekhtessara, with the option of visiting the local fishing village.

The Summary Wadi el Seboua Meharraga Dakka Wadi el Arab
Breakfast on the side of the boat and sailing during this time. You will then begin your visit to... see+ the site of Wadi es-Seboua, a collection of jewels saved from the waters. Accompanied by our guide, you will move by foot between the lake and the desert, passing from one temple to another, until you reach the temple of Dakka, where you can admire the panorama.

The temple of Wadi es-Sebua, built between 35 and 50 AD during the reign of Ramses II, is the third hemispeos built by the pharaoh in Nubia. Dedicated to Amun, it served as a resting place for the sacred barque during its descent down the Nile. The Arabs, inspired by the stone sphinxes with lion bodies that hauled in on the side of the boat of the central aisle, named the place "Wadi es-Sebua," the valley of lions. The temple of Meharaqa, an unfinished chapel dating from the Roman period, is dedicated to the god Serapis and the goddess Isis. Serapis, a Greco-Alexandrian god established at the end of the 4th century BCE, combines the attributes of Osiris and Zeus, creating a syncretism between the Egyptian and Greek religions. Serapis' consort is the goddess Isis, and together they have a son named Harpocrates.

The temple of Dakka is dedicated to Thoth, god of divine intelligence, master of science, and lord of letters. This "divine house" faces north. This orientation, along with the bas-reliefs of "the Distant One," evoke the flooding and power of the expected flood in Egypt.

Return to the side of the boat and sailing. Tea time will be served on the beach. Overnight in Wadi el Arab.

Wadi el Arab Amada Derr Pennout Kasr Ibrim Toshka
Sailing during breakfast. Visit to the site of Amada, including its temple, the temple of Derr, and... see+ the tomb of Pennout. The visit to the site of Amada is particularly interesting thanks to the discovery of its temple, which was moved in one piece during the construction of the dam. Our guide will explain the technique used in detail. In the naos of the temple of Derr, nicknamed "Little Abu," visitors can recreate the miracle of Abu Simbel. At the end of the visit, it will be possible to enjoy a traditional Nubian coffee on site.

The temple of Amada: this building, dedicated to Amun and Re-Horakhty, was built under Thutmose III and his son Amenhotep II (sanctuary and vestibule). Thutmose IV had the hypostyle hall erected and Seti I built the pylon. The latter and his son Ramses II carried out some restoration and decoration work there.

The temple-speos of Derr: originally located on the east bank, this 33-meter-long speos, built under Ramses II in the second half of his reign, is dedicated to Amun-Re. Its layout and orientation are identical to those of Abu Simbel, with the exception of its monumentality and the four colossi. In the sanctuary, the same gods are seated in the niche: Re-Horakhty, the deified Ramses II, Amun-Re, and Ptah.

The funerary chapel of Pennout: viceroy of Nubia under Ramses VI (20th Dynasty), Pennout, "Royal Son of Kush," was buried at Aniba, on the west bank opposite Qasr Ibrim. His tomb has only one room.

You will have a little time for a well-deserved swim before continuing your journey. Stop near the ruins of the fortress of Qasr Ibrim, a fortified town occupying the plateau of a sandstone massif on the eastern bank of the Nile, about 80 m high. It dominated the Aniba plain (west bank) and its administrative center, the residence of the viceroys of Nubia under Egyptian rule. Today, the Upper Dam reservoir has erased nearly sixty meters, reducing the ancient fortress to an archaeological site. Located 240 km from Aswan and 50 km from the Sudanese border, Qasr Ibrim was a stronghold of Lower Nubia for three millennia. Resumption of navigation and overnight stay in Toshka.

Toshka Abu Simbel
Sail during breakfast towards Abu Simbel. As Champollion said: "This great temple alone is worth... see+ the trip to Nubia." This comment perfectly sums up the splendor of the site. Guests will discover how the temples were saved, and our guide will explain the history and power of Ramses II, which cannot fail to impress given the grandeur of this marvel. The Great Temple of Abu Simbel is a hemispeos located in Abu Simbel, Egypt. It is dedicated to the worship of Amun, Ra, Ptah, and the deified Ramses II. Carved mostly out of rock, it features a facade composed of four colossal statues of Ramses II seated, as well as other statues, bas-reliefs, and friezes. The parts not carved out of rock include a peribolos and a pylon made of Nile mud bricks.

Originally, the temple was carved into the hill of Meha in Nubia. It was moved along with the small temple at the top of its original cliff to save it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser, caused by the construction of the Aswan High Dam in the 1960s. To recreate the original site, the temple is now covered by an artificial hollow hill. Overnight stay in Abu Simbel, with the option of attending the temple's sound and light show.
