Optional authentic excursion/experience: visit to Melk Abbey. A masterpiece of Gothic architecture,... see+ the abbey dominates the splendid Wachau valley. The ochre color of the grandiose façade is reminiscent of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. The abbey's interior also boasts magnificent Baroque frescoes and a library containing some 100,000 volumes, including some of the most precious manuscripts of the Middle Ages. Return on board and sail to Dürnstein, arriving early afternoon. Free time in this small medieval town, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architectural heritage. The village is packed with sights, including the elegant baroque bell tower of the Dürnstein church, the medieval and Renaissance facades of the town hall and the colorful houses in the main alley.
Continuation to Vienna. In the evening, optional authentic excursion/experience: visit Vienna "by night". A veritable open-air museum, you'll discover the capital in all its glory. The illuminated facades reveal all their splendor. The Musikverein takes on a whole new dimension under these illuminations, the opera house reveals its interior decor thanks to light effects, and on Schwarzenbergplatz you'll see the gilded bronze statue of Johann Strauss, as well as many other monuments, such as the Hofburg Palace and the Augustinian Church. Nicknamed the "Hungarian Versailles", Gödöllö is the country's largest Baroque castle. In 1866, the empress used it as a hospital to visit wounded soldiers. Later, the Hungarian government offered the residence to the royal family. Queen Elisabeth "Sissi" cherished her stays at the castle, and was particularly fond of the Hungarian people.
Afternoon sailing to Bratislava. You'll pass the Gab¿íkovo dam, one of the largest on the Danube. You'll sail past the Dunajské Luhy protected landscape park, a marshland that is a crucial environment for rare bird species, one of the most important nesting areas and an exceptional ornithological territory stretching right up to the gates of Bratislava. - Authentic: guided tour of the Slovak capital. Situated at the foot of the Little Carpathians, the city is surrounded by woodland and rocky outcrops. Its castle, the city's emblem, stands on a hill above the Danube. From its forecourt, you can enjoy a unique view of the city and the river. The medieval old town is not to be outdone, with its maze of winding streets, squares, fountains and cafés. Bratislava is also known for its intense cultural and nightlife scene.
- Experience: hiking in the Little Carpathians through the Devinska Kobyla nature reserve. This Slovakian nature reserve, just a few kilometers from the capital, will take you to the ruins of Devin Castle, from where you'll enjoy an admirable view of the Danube.
Afternoon sailing along the Danube Alluvial Meadows National Park, the wildest part of the Danube, a veritable oasis between Bratislava and Vienna. Arrive in Vienna at the end of the day.

In the morning, optional authentic excursion/experience: Vienna, the Capuchin Church, and the... see+ National Library. The Capuchin Church was built between 1622 and 1632 in the Baroque style. It is a pretty little church, very simple. Its interior is both original and surprising. Here you will discover the tombs of members of the Austrian nobility. Some are true works of art and bear witness to the influence of the personalities who rest in the crypt, among whom those of Maria Theresa of Austria, Franz Joseph I, and Empress Sissi are undoubtedly the most remarkable. Then drive to the National Library, whose heart is one of the most beautiful rooms in the world. Among other things, you will appreciate the dome sumptuously decorated with frescoes by court painter Daniel Gran and two magnificent Venetian globes from the Baroque period. Return to the ship. In the afternoon, optional authentic excursion/experience: Artstetten Castle. Built in the 13th century, the castle was acquired by Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1823, and underwent major alterations to give it its current appearance, with its 7 bulbous towers. Part of the castle is dedicated to the museum, which provides a comprehensive account of the Archduke's life and the outbreak of the 1914 war, with a wealth of memorabilia, personal objects, photos, furniture, weapons and more. Departure by bus accompanied by the boat's hostess toMelk Abbey. The abbey guides will meet you in the inner courtyard to begin the tour. Overlooking the Danube, the abbey, which has been home to Benedictine monks for 900 years, was originally built as a... see+ fortified castle for the Babenberg family. The abbey was founded in the 11th century and the current Benedictine abbey buildings date from the Baroque period and are the work of architect Jakob Prandtauer. Melk Abbey houses a museum where you will discover various exhibits that have been brought to life through architecture, sound and light, and the use of various media. Computer animations tell the story of how the buildings were constructed. You will also visit the library and the marble hall, true gems of Baroque architecture. Return to the side of the boat by bus. NOTES Wear comfortable shoes: there is a staircase and 500m of paved path to walk from the bus parking lot to the abbey entrance. Before becoming the capital of independent Slovakia in 1993, Bratislava was first the capital of Hungary from 1536 to 1784 under the name Pressburg. It then belonged to Czechoslovakia and became the capital of the "Slovak Socialist Republic," part... see+ of Czechoslovakia between 1969 and 1992. Depart by bus with your guides to the Hofburg. The Hofburg is also known for having been the "winter residence" of the Habsburgs for close to 600 years. During their reign, they transformed a small 13th-century fortress into a huge and magnificent palace.... see+ Today, most of the buildings house museums, and the gardens, dotted with monuments, have become the Volksgarten and Burggarten. Take the imperial staircase to reach the Sissi Museum. Six rooms in the Hofburg have been converted to house the museum, which focuses mainly on Elisabeth's private life, highlighted by her poems that reveal her personality. You can admire many personal items that belonged to the empress, as well as a reproduction of the dress she wore at her farewell ball on the occasion of her engagement. Also on display are the most famous portraits, the beautiful empress's jewelry, and a partial reproduction of the luxurious carriage converted into a salon. You will arrive in the imperial apartments and have access to the 19 official and private rooms of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth. The imperial apartments bear witness to the splendor of the monarchy. Among other things, you will see the emperor's audience chamber, his study, and his bedroom. Depart by bus with your guides to the Capuchin Church, beneath which lies the Imperial Crypt housing the tombs of the Habsburgs. The magnificent double tomb of Maria Theresa and her husband, Emperor Francis I of the Holy Roman Empire, is the work of Balthasar Ferdinand Moll. The last emperor buried here was Emperor Franz Joseph I (1916). The tombs of Empress Elisabeth and Crown Prince Rudolf are also located in the Capuchin Crypt. This visit reflects the soul of the Austrian people, who are respectful of their history.Then we head to the National Library, whose heart is one of the most beautiful library rooms in the world. It is the largest Baroque library in Europe. The impressive ceremonial hall is almost 80 m long and 20 m high and is topped by a dome sumptuously decorated with frescoes by court painter Daniel Gran. More than 200,000 volumes are kept here, including the 15,000 works that belonged to Prince Eugene of Savoy's library and one of the largest collections of Martin Luther's reformist writings. Departure by coach from Melk to visit Artstetten Castle. The castle served as a summer residence for the imperial family for many years. It is also the burial place chosen by the last heir to the throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and his wife, the Duchess of... see+ Hohenberg. Numerous souvenirs, photos, furniture, and objects are gathered in the museum dedicated to the last Habsburgs, evoking the era, life, and activities of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. You will also discover the castle grounds, a veritable mix of unique species interspersed with elements brought in by each generation. This is the case with the water feature, which serves as a fire reservoir but also as a swimming pool where even Emperor Franz Joseph learned to swim.
