Further on, we'll pass by the Gornje Podunavlje nature reserve, nestled in a typical forest setting and providing an exceptional habitat for wildlife. Arrival early afternoon. Optional excursion to Osijek. The capital of Slavonia, a Croatian province, is famous for its beauty and symbolic sites. In addition to the red-brick Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, which dominates the city, Osijek boasts impressive Baroque architecture. Free afternoon in Belgrade. Take the opportunity to stroll through the old town or the bohemian quarter, nicknamed the "little Montmartre", with its pretty, colorful facades. Morning sailing to the Iron Gates, between the Carpathians and the Balkans. The most spectacular... see+ part of this gorge was nicknamed "The Boilers" by navigators because the water, squeezed between the steep mountain walls, once seemed to bubble. You'll see in turn the "Tabula Traiana", a huge marble slab reminiscent of the "imperial road", an elegant viaduct overlooking the mouth of the river and the "portrait" of Decébal, carved in stone. Early afternoon arrival in Golubac. Optional excursion: Golubac fortress. Recently opened to the public, this imposing fortress, built in the early 14th century at the entrance to the Iron Gates, is one of the country's most important defensive structures. Alternately in the hands of the Serbs and Turks, it is situated on a mountainside and features nine towers built one above the other and linked by ramparts. A little anecdote: the Golubac fortress was one of the three best locations for filming the famous "Game of Thrones" series.

Early morning arrival in Novi Sad. Optional excursion to discover Novi Sad. Considered by Serbs to... see+ be one of the most beautiful cities in the country, it boasts a vibrant pedestrianized historic heart. The Austro-Hungarian architecture of the main square rivals the beauty of 19th-century mansions. A green city, Novi Sad boasts pretty flowerbeds and tree-lined squares.
Return on board and sail to Ilok. Don't miss Pedrovaradin Castle, overlooking Novi Sad. On leaving the city, the Danube is dotted with islets all the way to Ilok. Arrive in Ilok in the afternoon. Optional visit to the medieval town. Nestled harmoniously above the Danube on the edge of Croatia, this small fortified town contains a number of treasures. In addition to Odescalchi Castle, which today houses the town museum, Ilok lives to the rhythm of the Danube, between generous nature and Slavonic food tastings.

Ilok Mohács Kalocsa
Early morning arrival in Mohacs, customs clearance. In the morning, optional excursion to Pécs.... see+ Capital of Culture in 2010, the city undertook extensive renovation work for the occasion. This radiant city has many assets. The most surprising building is undoubtedly the cathedral with its four bell towers, which Pope John Paul II declared a minor basilica in 1990. More surprising is the Paleo-Christian necropolis, an astonishing burial site dating back to the year 350, discovered by chance in 1975.
In the afternoon, optional excursion to the Puszta. In the heart of the great Hungarian plain, now a nature reserve, you'll travel on horse-drawn carts across the wild steppes. You'll be treated to an equestrian show where you can admire the riders and their horses. The tour ends with a tasting of local products. Meanwhile, the boat sails back to Kalocsa, where you'll meet up with it again. Continuation to Budapest.

Take a panoramic tour between the hills of Buda and the plains of Pest... Then along the river, where you can admire the Parliament building overlooking the Danube.
Afternoon free time or optional visit to Gödöllö Castle, summer residence of Empress Sissi. Nicknamed the "Hungarian Versailles", Gödöllö is the country's largest Baroque castle. In 1866, the empress used it as a hospital to visit wounded soldiers. Later, the Hungarian government offered the residence to the royal family. Queen Elisabeth "Sissi" cherished her stays at the castle, and was particularly fond of the Hungarian people.
In the evening, optional tour of Budapest "by night". The lights brighten up the facades of the monuments, providing a spectacular backdrop. You'll catch a glimpse of the Parliament, where the buttresses, towers and dome are brought to life by clever lighting, the Chain Bridge with Buda Castle illuminated in the background, the Fishermen's Bastion with its seven towers paying homage to the seven tribes that founded Hungary, and a superb view of illuminated Pest.

Activities

Accompanied by your guides, you will begin with a visit to Osijek, located in the east of the historic Croatian region of Slavonia. The city was founded by the Slavs, who built a river port on the ruins of a Roman city in the 7th century. In 1526, the Turks... see+ captured the city and remained there for more than 160 years, making Osijek the capital of Ottoman Slavonia. But in 1687, they suffered a heavy defeat at Harkany and left the city without a fight. It was pillaged by the Austrians, who left no trace of Ottoman splendor. The Austrians built their citadel on the dismantled Turkish city. You will first visit the upper town with a view of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. Colloquially known as the cathedral, this imposing red brick church, dominated by a 90-meter topmast, was built at the instigation of Bishop Strossmayer, a native of Osijek. Then you will head to the old town, where you will visit the 18th-century fortress built between 1712 and 1721 by architect Maximilien Gosseau d'Hennef, who designed the civil and military buildings of the citadel, giving it a remarkable architectural unity. You will then head to the main square, where you can admire the Holy Trinity Monument. Return to the side of the boat. NOTES Please wear comfortable walking shoes. The order of visits may be changed. Depart by coach to discover Serbia's capital, Belgrade, which is also one of Europe's oldest cities with a history stretching back 7,000 years. Located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, near the Morava corridor that connects the Danube... see+ countries to the Aegean Sea, the city combines a fortress, situated on a promontory, with a merchant town and a port. The visit will begin with a guided panoramic tour of the city, during which you will be able to admire the theater and the national museum, the Serbian Assembly Palace, and the former royal palace. You will stop to visit the Temple of St. Sava. Construction of this Orthodox church began in 1939 but is still ongoing, as it was interrupted by World War II and then by Tito's dictatorship. Construction only resumed in 2001 and is financed exclusively by donations. You will travel to the city center by bus to enjoy some free time, then your guides will take you to Kalemegdan Park, the largest and most beautiful park in Belgrade, home to the Belgrade Fortress overlooking the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers. Departure by coach to discover the city of Novi Sad. Capital of the autonomous region of Vojvodina, Novi Sad is also Serbia's second largest city in terms of population. The city has a long and eventful history, having been ruled by the Celts, Romans, Franks,... see+ Barbarians, and Turks before becoming part of the Habsburg Empire. It was then known as Petrovaradin, while the name Novi Sad, meaning "new plant," appeared in 1748. The city's history was further disrupted during the 20th century, as after World War I, the territories of the Balkans were successively united or separated, under different names, until 2006, when the city became part of independent Serbia.You will visit the city center by foot. The old Austro-Hungarian town with its Baroque buildings developed around the ancient fortifications. You will have the opportunity to discover the episcopal seat and an Orthodox church before continuing up the main street to Freedom Square, wherethe town hall, dating from 1895, is located. You will begin the excursion by visiting the medieval town of Ilok. Overlooking the Danube, this small fortified town has been famous since time immemorial for its vineyards. The old town is an inexhaustible source of material evidence of life in this region... see+ from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages and up to the present day. The oldest evidence bears witness to life in the Neolithic period. You will have the opportunity to see numerous remains from the Roman era, as well as a rich heritage dating back to the Middle Ages: the remains of St. Peter's Basilica ( dating from the 13th century) and the walls of the fortress built by Nikola Ilocki (dating from the 15th century). You will also visit the historic center, the church and convent of St. John of Capistrano, which were built in the 14th century by the Duke of Ugrin, and the Odescalchi Castle. In the castle, you will discover a museum tracing the cultural and historical heritage of the city. You will also take part in a rich tasting of local products. Departure by coach for a tour of Pécs. Nicknamed the city of five churches, Pécs is a jewel in southern Hungary. You will leave the boat by coach to reach the city of Pécs. Accompanied by your guide, you will explore the city by foot,... see+ starting with a visit to the basilica, whose Roman foundations date back to the 4th century. The current façade of the basilica was completed during its reconstruction between 1882 and 1891, but it has retained its medieval layout and post-Romanesque interior and exterior style. You will also have the opportunity to discover the basilica's treasure and crypt. You will continue with a visit to the early Christian necropolis, dating back to the 4th century when the Roman city was founded under the name "Sopianae." These tombs, richly decorated with murals depicting Christian themes, were built underground as burial chambers topped by commemorative chapels on the surface. The site has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. You will continue towards the city center and stop in front of the Djami. In the 13th century, the Turks destroyed St. Bartholomew's Church and used its stones to build a mosque on the orders of Pasha Gazi Kaseem. Pécs was liberated from Turkish occupation in 1868 and the mosque was converted back into a Catholic church, although it retained the shape of a Turkish mosque. You will have some free time in the charming city center before returning to the bus to go back to the boat. NOTES Please wear comfortable walking shoes: the tour is entirely on foot. The visit to the necropolis is not recommended for people who suffer from claustrophobia. There are also stairs to go up and down. The order of visits may be changed. The Puszta, also known as the Great Plain, is a vast flat grassland that was considered the Wild West of Hungary in the 19th century, with huge herds of cattle... see+ grazing under the watchful eye of cowboys. The Puszta has been a World Heritage Site since 1999. During this tour, you will discover the Puszta, its breathtaking landscapes and surprising wildlife from horse-drawn carts, the region's picturesque means of transport. In a small part of the world's largest steppe, you will have the opportunity to seeraczka sheep with twisted horns, mangalica pigs with curly hair, and gray cattle with long horns, as well as rare bird species.
