Stroll along Laugavegur, lined with boutiques and outdoor equipment shops, towards the sublime Hallgrímskirkja Cathedral before visiting the fascinating Reykjavík Art Museum.
If you have time, we recommend booking a pre-programme with us to discover a selection of Iceland's natural wonders before your cruise departs.

Reykjavik Nuuk
Your day starts early today as we make our way to Reykjavík airport to fly to Nuuk.
Nuuk is... see+ Greenland's colourful and compact capital. With a population of 20,000, it has a striking mix of modern and old buildings. If you prefer the latter, head for the old town along the waterfront. It is home to Nuuk Cathedral and the statue of Hans Egede, perched on a hill. In the water below, admire the magnificent statue of the Mother of the Sea, a striking juxtaposition of the two.
Your expedition ship awaits you in port. You'll be welcomed on board and take off your complimentary expedition jacket, then it's time to settle into your cabin and enjoy your first meal on board.

Nuuk Disko Bay
The crossing to the Arctic Circle will be an opportunity to familiarise yourself with AECO's... see+ guidelines and recommendations for operations and landings in the fragile Arctic environment. Be sure to attend these mandatory presentations if you wish to join the planned landings in the Far North.
You'll also have time to settle in on board, take advantage of the ship's state-of-the-art facilities and join in the first lectures on Greenland-related topics, including the participatory science projects carried out on board.
At some point during the voyage, we will cross the Arctic Circle, marking our entry into the territory of the Midnight Sun, in the heart of summer.

Disko Bay
Today we enter Disko Bay, a haven for whales and other animals. The waters of the region are dotted... see+ with icebergs of all shapes and sizes that have all drifted from the same place, the icy Ilulissat Fjord. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this spectacular place regularly features among Greenland's must-see sites, and today you'll understand why. Enjoy the scenery as you walk along the wooden footbridge leading to this splendid frozen fjord.
Marvel at the giant icebergs floating peacefully in the deep blue waters that take on different shades of white, grey and blue. Amateur and experienced photographers alike will return to the ship with some enviable shots. Back in the charming town of Ilulissat, visit the Ice Fjord Centre to learn more about the ice in this fascinating region and take a hike to Sermermiut for incredible views.

Disko Bay Uummannaq
It's beyond the Nuussuaq peninsula that distances take on their full meaning, as the region marks... see+ the beginning of Greenland's ‘far north’. At this latitude, life adopts a slower pace. We'll have to make do with the weather and ice conditions, and any attempt to disembark will be subject to the captain's ability to navigate the waterways safely, especially in summer fog. All in all, it's the perfect setting for our expedition.
The beauty of the land and the relative productivity of the environment have attracted visitors since the first settlers arrived over 4,000 years ago. Intriguing archaeological sites reveal without a word the ability of Arctic peoples to thrive in such a hostile environment. It was in this region that the famous Qilakitsoq mummies were discovered.
There are many things to do around here, including stopping off at small communities such as Uummannaq, a beautiful island home to the heart-shaped mountain Ukkusissat. We could visit the archaeological site of Qilakitsok, disembark in the wilderness or attempt a crossing of the interior fjords aboard our small expedition boats.

Uummannaq At sea - Greenland
We'll spend the day on the high seas, crossing Melville Bay. This vast bay borders the frozen coast... see+ of Lauge Koch, where the ice cap meets the sea. Locally known as Qimusseriarsuaq, ‘the great dog sled run’, the bay was renamed by British explorers in honour of Robert Dundas, second Viscount Melville in the mid-nineteenth century.
Enjoy a day's sailing well above 70 degrees north. Relax on board, take part in wildlife spotting on deck with the expedition team and learn more about the Arctic through the programme of lectures on subjects such as nature, geology and mythology.

At sea - Greenland Thulé
So named in the 4th century BC by the Greek explorer Pytheas, ‘Ultima Thule’ referred to a... see+ mythical land in the far north. No one knows exactly what territory Pytheas was referring to. However, some say it was northern Greenland.

Thulé
Extreme weather conditions throughout the year mean that the inhabitants have to live in isolation... see+ and in harsh conditions. Even by Arctic standards, Thule is a particularly harsh and isolated part of the world. And yet it was the first region of Greenland to be colonised by the predecessors of the Inuit, some 4,500 years ago. Arctic archaeologists still don't understand how they managed to survive and establish themselves in such a hostile environment.

Thulé
The rich animal life, particularly birdlife, is a real source of sustenance, and the hunting... see+ culture in this region is still more traditional than in the rest of Greenland. At one time, the Arctic travel experience of the locals, who acted as guides or rescuers, was much sought-after by European and American expedition leaders. The region's geographical location made it a natural starting point for many voyages to the North Pole.

Bear in mind that our programme depends on fluctuating weather and ice conditions. We plan to visit... see+ local communities, disembark on expedition boats in the heart of breathtaking nature, weave our way through icy canals and, if we're lucky, spot Arctic giants including walruses, orcas, narwhals, belugas and maybe even polar bears.

Thulé At sea - Greenland
As our northern adventures draw to a close, we're heading south again. Days at sea are the perfect... see+ opportunity to relax on board. Chat with your new friends in the Expedition Lounge & Bar, catch up on your reading and enjoy some fine dining. If you haven't tried the whirlpool baths yet, now's your chance. What could be more magical than immersing yourself in warm water while watching the icebergs go by?

On deck, the expedition team will continue to look out for wildlife and the speakers will continue... see+ to reveal exciting new information about Greenland, the Arctic and other topics related to your voyage. At sea - Greenland West Greenland
Home to some of the country's longest fjords, the central west coast of Greenland is a land of... see+ contrasts, dotted with a myriad of communities, including Greenland's second largest city. The vastness of the territory, however, makes this stretch of coast a sparsely populated region, where huge distances are the norm and a sense of remoteness and isolation is part of everyday life.
On our journey south, we'll be visiting communities where traditions are still firmly rooted, such as Sisimiut, 40 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. This modern town has developed alongside ancient remains dating back more than 4,000 years. If you want to learn more about the ancient Saqqaq culture, don't miss the fascinating local museum. If you're looking for a special souvenir, opt for a qiviut scarf, hat or mittens. This wool, spun from the down of musk oxen, is reputed to be ten times warmer than sheep's wool.

Between shore excursions, meetings with friendly locals and marine wildlife observation sessions, these few days on board are the perfect conclusion to our trip.
