South Greenland
The Norsemen tried to settle here a thousand years ago, but the harsh conditions eventually drove... see+ them out after just four centuries. Today, these vast, sparsely populated wilderness areas will give you a sense of serenity that the modern world rarely offers. So relax, enjoy nature and learn more about this unique region.

South Greenland South-west Greenland
The coastline between the fjord systems of southern Greenland and Nuuk is as wild as it gets. The... see+ few local communities are separated by long distances. And although the climate remains mild for the Arctic, the topography is rugged, divided by high mountain ranges half covered in ice and criss-crossed by deep turquoise fjords. With few inland passages, travel in this region has been extremely difficult since the dawn of time. Here, nature reigns supreme. It's the ideal playground for modern-day adventurers.
Breakfast

Dinner
South-west Greenland
As we head north, well equipped for the local conditions, we'll discover the landscapes of... see+ ‘Mellembygden’, the Middle Community of the Nordic settlers. We'll also be looking for the ghost mining town of Ivittuut, where cryolite was mined, a mineral that played a major role in history. The only inhabitants you'll find there now are timid musk oxen. Finally, we enter the majestic fjords, carved out over thousands of years by massive glaciers that flow from the ice cap.
Activities: Includes: Disembarkation at Ivittuut, see+

South-west Greenland
Wildlife thrives in this remote region. Join our expedition team as they observe the wildlife,... see+ either on board or ashore, and keep your camera and binoculars handy: seabirds, nesting colonies and feasting whales are never far away. If we're lucky, we might even see one of the rare herds of musk oxen living on Greenland's west coast.

South-west Greenland Nuuk
Get ready to explore a sprawling system of fjords. Known as Nuup Kangerlua by the locals, the... see+ fjords around Nuuk unfold in a network of surprisingly parallel waterways. They are dominated by the Kangiussap Nunaa peninsula and the ice cap, particularly in the famous Nuuk Isfjord.
These lands were once home to the ancient western Nordic communities. It was the most northerly region they managed to colonise in the Middle Ages. It was probably at Nuup Kangerlua that the descendants of the Vikings first encountered the Thule people.

Breakfast
Lunch
Dinner
Nuuk
The fjords are dotted with the remains of ancient Nordic populations and small Inuit communities.... see+ Some are abandoned, such as the picturesque Qornoq, while others are thriving, such as Kapisillit and its 88 inhabitants. The relative proximity of Nuuk tends to obscure the fact that until very recently, the communities living on the shores of Nuup Kangerlua were as isolated as other Greenlandic villages.
Weather and ice conditions permitting, we'll spend the next two days exploring the fjord system and contemplating the changing mountain landscapes. We'll also try to reach the frozen headwaters of Nuup Kangerlua and visit one of the Inuit villages, while keeping an eye out for hiking, expedition boats and wildlife viewing.

Nuuk Reykjavik
We bid farewell to the ship, the crew and the expedition team as our journey comes to an end in... see+ Nuuk. This bustling capital may look bubbly compared to the places you've visited, but it's hardly a metropolis: its population doesn't even reach 20,000.
Visit the National Museum for a fascinating insight into what life might have been like here 500 years ago and see the fascinating Qilakitsoq mummies. Otherwise, there's no shortage of shopping opportunities compared with the rest of Greenland, and the town has a number of cafés and restaurants where you can treat yourself to a gourmet break. If you have time before your return flight, Nuuk is a fascinating window on modern Greenland.
From here, you'll fly back to Reykjavík, after an adventure full of memories you won't soon forget.
