Welcome to Norway! First stop: Oslo, Norway's thriving capital. Your hotel is located in the heart... see+ of the city, so you can enjoy the end of the day or evening as you wish.

No doubt you'll want to discover the charms of this cosmopolitan capital. Head into the city centre and take photos of Rådhuset, the architecturally distinctive City Hall, the Royal Palace and Oslo Cathedral.

Along the waterfront is Aker Brygge with its popular restaurants, as well as the imposing Akershus fortress and the gleaming new buildings around the quays of Bjørvika. Bjørvika is also home to modern attractions such as the Oslo Opera House and the new Edvard Munch Museum which, as you might expect, has the world's largest collection of works by the iconic Norwegian artist.

Or, if it's not dark yet, hop on the metro at Central station. In just 20 minutes, you'll reach the edge of a tranquil alpine forest overlooking the city.

Oslo
After breakfast at your hotel, we'll set off to visit two of Oslo's main attractions. The Vigeland... see+ Sculpture Park is located in the centre of the splendid Frogner Park. Here you will see over 200 sculptures in bronze, granite and cast iron by the prolific Norwegian artist Gustav Vigeland.

Further north of Vigeland, just outside Oslo, is the Holmenkollen ski jump. You won't be jumping yourself, but the impressive building offers panoramic views of the city, lakes and fjord. Below the ski jump, you can visit the oldest ski museum in the world, with 2,500 pairs of skis and a 4,000-year history of skiing.

The tour ends at the quay where your ship is waiting to set sail in the early evening. Once you have been welcomed on board and settled into your cabin or suite, you will meet your Coastal Experience Team of guides. You'll get to know each member of the team as they give talks and organise on-board activities throughout your journey.

You'll also meet your fellow passengers in the ship's two-storey Panorama Lounge, and together we'll write a new chapter in our history as we sail from Oslo for the first time. Watch the twinkling lights of the capital fade in the distance as we leave port and take in the scenery and sights along the Oslofjord.

Oslo Kristiansund
Situated at the southern tip of the country and home to 112,000 people, Kristiansand is Norway's... see+ fifth largest city. We plan to arrive mid-morning and stay until early evening, giving you plenty of time to explore the town.

Why not immerse yourself in the region's past on a guided tour dedicated to the history of the Second World War? On this tour, you'll notice that the town is built on a very uniform grid plan, with several straight roads running from the harbour right through the town. Along these roads, you'll see architecture from different periods, bearing witness to the extensive rebuilding the city underwent after the great fires of the 18th and 19th centuries, and even after an attack during the Second World War.

Kristiansand's mission is to become Europe's most sustainable port. Discover this goal on an optional excursion that includes a visit to the island of Odderøya. Here you'll discover magnificent views of the ocean and the city, and visit 18th-century military barracks that have been converted into artists' studios.

Kristiansand's military past in the 20th century is the subject of another optional excursion to the Vara Battery. It houses the second largest cannon ever built.

Another optional excursion takes you to Lindesnes Lighthouse, Norway's most southerly point. As you discover this landmark, which has been guiding sailors through the dark nights since the early 20th century, you'll learn about the site's long history, dating back to 1656.

Our trip will end on a high note with a fabulous farewell dinner. Take the opportunity to exchange photos and experiences with your fellow travellers one last time.

Kristiansund Haugesung
After passing the southern tip of Norway, we start heading north along the west coast. Just past... see+ Stavanger, we reach Haugesund, the ‘Home of the Viking Kings’.

This nickname is inspired by sites such as St Olav's Church, built in 1250 by King Håkon Hå. You'll also discover Haraldshaugen, a national monument reputed to be the burial place of the first king. And when you visit the Nordvegen history centre, you will travel back in time to the Viking Age in the company of a fictional Harald I??, who will introduce you to the various exhibitions on offer to the public.

After this brief passage through Haugesund, you will rejoin the ship to enjoy a panoramic crossing of Hardangerfjord. This 179-kilometre fjord is the second longest in the country and the fifth longest in the world.

This magnificent waterway is one of the most beautiful in Norway. Let yourself be transported by the mountain scenery that surrounds you, while the white peaks that dominate the fjord are reflected in the shimmering water at their foot.

The region is famous for its apple products: jams, juices and award-winning cider, which one food critic has described as the ‘Nordic champagne’.

Haugesung Alesund
After a hearty breakfast on board, we'll dock mid-morning in a town that stretches across a string... see+ of islands. With almost a full day, you'll have plenty of time to discover all that Ålesund has to offer.

As you approach the shore, the first thing you'll notice is the distinctive style of its architecture. Every detail of the buildings, from the bright colours to the rounded spires, is inspired by the Art Nouveau style popular in the early 1900s. Almost the entire city was renovated in this style when it was rebuilt after a major fire in 1904.

Leaving the quays behind, you'll enter a city worthy of fairytales, venturing down narrow streets lined with inimitable houses. If you still have enough space left on your camera's memory card, you can take some impressive shots of the archipelago from the viewpoint of Mount Aksla. The 418 steps leading up to it may seem intimidating, but the view from the top is well worth the effort.

You can also visit Atlantic Sea Park, Norway's first Marine Science Centre. It is one of the largest saltwater aquariums in Northern Europe. It is home to seals, otters and crabs, as well as many other marine species. You can even see Humboldt penguins, a species not found north of the equator.

You'll also have the chance to join an optional activity, such as discovering a fjord: Geirangerfjord or Hjørundfjord. And weather permitting, you can go kayaking. Imagine gliding through the fjord, skimming the surface of its pristine waters while sea creatures swim in the depths beneath your boat.

Surrounded by islands and water, Brønnøysund lies on a narrow peninsula jutting out from the... see+ mainland. Around 5,000 people live in this small town, most of them in colourful houses set against a backdrop of gentle slopes and spectacular mountain peaks.

Soak up the lively atmosphere of the harbour and stroll along Havnegata. Stop off at one of the pubs for a bite to eat, or treat yourself to a real meal in a local restaurant. Stroll around the visitors' marina or explore a neo-Gothic stone church dating from 1870.

As you sail, take in the Vega archipelago, comprising some 6,500 islands, islets and reefs. The island of Gardsøy is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Centre where the secrets of harvesting the precious eiderdown are explained, thanks to the installation of small huts where the local ducks make their nests.

On an island south of Brønnøysund, you'll find Torghatten mountain, recognisable by the natural tunnel that runs through its centre. According to local legend, the hole is the result of an arrow shot by a troll at a young woman who rejected his advances. As the king of the trolls threw his hat down to protect her, the sun rose, turning the hat into stone with a hole in the middle caused by the arrow.

By taking part in an optional excursion, you can reach the hole in the mountain on foot in an hour. Look through the tunnel and enjoy the view of the surrounding islands.

We'll continue sailing north in the afternoon, leaving the Helgeland coast behind us, and pass the Arctic Circle around midnight.

Bronnoysund Svolvaer Stokmarknes
Today we're exploring Lofoten, a stunning group of islands jutting out of the Norwegian Sea. As... see+ soon as you see the towering peaks rising up around you and the fishing villages clinging to their flanks, you'll understand why this string of islands is so often considered one of Norway's most dazzling sights.

We dock in the town of Svolvær mid-morning. Located on the island of Austvågøya, in the heart of the Lofoten Islands, Svolvær is the largest town in the archipelago. It has many restaurants, shops, galleries and cafés. You can also admire the panorama offered by the Svolvær goat, a nearby mountain that owes its name to its resemblance to a horned goat.

A number of optional excursions are available from Svolvær, including snowshoe hikes, guided bus tours of Lofoten's most emblematic sites and an exhilarating horseback ride along a white sandy beach.

Leaving the region without a stopover in Stokmarknes is unthinkable. This historic town is part of the Vesterålen Islands, an archipelago just north-east of Lofoten.

On the waterfront, you'll discover our 1956 ship, the MS Finnmarken, housed in a glass case like a ship in a bottle.

This is the Hurtigrutemuseet. A guided tour will allow you to explore this old ship and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a bygone era.

Stokmarknes Tromso
Today is your chance to discover the capital of the Arctic. Often referred to as the ‘gateway to... see+ the Arctic’, Tromsø is Norway's most northerly university town. It's also the ideal destination for real winter activities, such as dog-sledding and snowshoeing.

Located around 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, Tromsø experiences polar night for just over a month in winter, and you'll have a great chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis.

This urban centre is full of life, with trendy restaurants and cafés, craft and local produce shops, and even haute couture. The ship will dock for 10 hours, giving you plenty of time to take optional excursions and explore the city at your leisure.

Among the activities on offer, you'll have the chance to join a guided tour of the Polar Museum, which traces the city's heritage of Arctic hunting and trade. For live animals, head to the Polaria Centre, an aquarium housing various Arctic marine species, including seals.

On the opposite shore from Polaria, you'll discover the Arctic Cathedral, which stands out in the cityscape for its striking design and impressive stained glass window. You can also visit some of Tromsø's surrounding fjords and possibly the wildly beautiful island of Senja.

Tromso Honningsvag
Our early morning arrival will allow you to enjoy a full day in Honningsvåg. The most northerly... see+ town on the continent, Honningsvåg offers a rather unusual landscape where trees and bushes are rare. This northern region has long winters and heavy snowfalls, so get ready for some fantastic winter scenery and activities.

Feel the snow crunch under your snowshoes as you hike across the plains. You might even try your hand at ice fishing, a much-loved winter tradition in the far north. Try some king crab. This local speciality is caught in the waters around Honningsvåg and served all year round. Admire local art in the Once Upon a Dream gallery, and don't miss the Honningsvåg church. This is the oldest building in the region, dating back to 1885.

The highlight of any trip to Honningsvåg is a visit to the North Cape. It's one of the most northerly points in continental Europe, and as we're heading there in winter, we'll be able to get around by snowmobile. As well as being close to Norway's northern border, looking out over the Barents Sea under the polar night sky is a truly special experience. Add to this the sublime Aurora Borealis dancing overhead and you're guaranteed an unforgettable experience.

The cape is marked by a famous globe, which deserves to be immortalised with a selfie or two... or more! When you feel like it, head to the North Cape Hall to warm up and enjoy the short film and various exhibitions that will teach you more about life in the High Arctic.

Having reached the most northerly point of our journey, we will leave the port in the evening to turn around and begin our descent southwards.

Honningsvag Alta
Alta is one of the largest coastal towns we visit, with a population of over 10,000. The River Alta... see+ is one of Norway's best salmon rivers and, as such, a famous attraction in the town. Large salmon are regularly caught here, some as big as 24 kilos. You won't regret trying the fresh salmon grilled in one of the local restaurants.

At 70 degrees north, this town is still a long way from the Arctic Circle. The region is known for offering good visibility of the Aurora Borealis, so get your camera ready. If the skies are clear and the conditions are right, you should be able to take some amazing photos of the lights dancing above you.

You can learn more about this incredible natural light show on a guided tour of the city. The Cathedral of the Northern Lights even has an exhibition showing how Alta became the epicentre of groundbreaking Northern Lights research between the 19th and 20th centuries.

The abundance of snow in winter means that you can enjoy truly authentic Arctic excursions, particularly by dog sled. Alta's snow and climate also create the perfect conditions for building and maintaining the Igloo Hotel, located on the banks of the River Alta.

You'll have the chance to visit the world's most northerly ice hotel, built from snow and ice every winter and sculpted with different artistic themes by local sculptors. Head to the hotel's ice bar, decorated with handcrafted ice sculptures, and order a drink from an ice glass. You won't need ice!

Alta Lodingen
The administrative centre of a municipality of the same name, Lødingen is a village on the... see+ south-western shore of Hinnøya, with a population of less than 2,000. It's a port where our ships used to call when they travelled our first coastal routes. Coming back here is a kind of homecoming for us.

We'll dock around midday and use Lødingen as a base to explore the island of Hinnøya, Norway's largest island south of Svalbard. Take a stroll along the streets near the harbour and admire the traditional red fishing huts, or rorbu, that line the shore. As you walk along, you'll no doubt notice the soothing atmosphere of village life.

The highlight of this visit will be discovering the incredible fjords and mountains for which the Norwegian coast is famous. Breaking away from Andfjord, Gullesfjord cuts through the north side of Hinnøya, bordered by pristine mountain ranges. The area is popular with campers, who stay on the campsite or in cabins and fish for cod in the fjord in winter.

An optional excursion offers you the chance to get up close to the fjord on a boat safari. Take on the challenge of a hike in the mountains and then enjoy the reward of the majestic panorama of the surrounding land and sea.

Continuing southwards, we leave the land of the polar night behind us, crossing the Arctic Circle... see+ in the early hours of the morning.

The Vikna archipelago is made up of a string of around 6,000 islands, islets and reefs. We'll be stopping off at Inner-Vikna, the largest of these islands. We plan to dock in the port town of Rørvik around midday and stay for a few hours.

The town and its surroundings have a rich history. There are burial mounds dating back to ancient times. The region's maritime heritage is well documented in Rørvik's many museums, including the Norwegian Coastal Museum.

The SalmoNor centre also welcomes visitors to learn about modern salmon farming and the Norwegian aquaculture industry, which supplies the world with tasty Nordic salmon.

Cod is another important export, and is the focus of a festival organised by the local council in March. This species of fish is particularly common in the archipelago's waters during the winter. It's the perfect time to try some fresh cod cakes!

Return to the ship in the late afternoon for your penultimate evening on board. Take advantage of the ship's facilities, such as the soothing sauna with panoramic views, or enjoy a local aquavit in the bar on the upper deck to warm up.

To round off our journey, we'll be visiting Molde, the capital and commercial hub of Romsdalen,... see+ which lies on the southern coast of the Romsdal peninsula. We've called at this port many times before on our Coastal Express itinerary, but this time the stopover will be much longer to give you plenty of time to explore the town.

Organised by our team of guides, the optional activities allow you to enjoy an even richer Molde experience. Accessible nearby on an optional excursion, the Atlantic route is an icon of the Norwegian coast that often features in Hollywood films.

Weather and time permitting, join us for an optional hike to the Varden viewpoint for some of the best panoramic views in the region. See the town from above, 402 metres above sea level, and admire the 222 snow-capped peaks on the other side of Moldefjord.

If you prefer to stay closer to the ground, you can visit the Romsdal Museum, one of Norway's largest folk museums, about ten minutes from the town centre.

Back on the ship, we'll end our trip in style with a farewell dinner. Take this opportunity to exchange photos and experiences with your fellow passengers one last time.

The North Cape plateau stretches 307 meters above the Arctic Ocean. Welcome to Europe's northernmost point. Unlike previous passengers who had to climb to the top of the cliff, a bus from Honningsvåg will take you to your destination. You'll have plenty of... see+ time to stroll around the plateau and take photos in front of the monumental globe.
Enjoy a generous breakfast buffet in the North Cape Hall as you gaze out over the Barents Sea, before experiencing the four seasons of the North Cape through a panoramic film. In the North Cape Hall, inside the cliff, you can buy handcrafted gifts for your loved ones in the gift store and visit the chapel and small museum.
Departing from Honningsvåg, we take an underwater tunnel that links the town to the mainland. The bus then takes us south along the majestic Porsangerfjord, before heading back along the coast to Hammerfest, one of the world's most northerly towns.
