Explore Krossfjorden, better known as Cross Bay, one of the most beautiful fjords in Spitsbergen.... see+ This site offers a remarkable concentration of the archipelago’s iconic landscapes, including monumental glaciers, rugged mountains, Arctic tundra, and remnants of early polar expeditions.
In particular, you’ll be able to admire the impressive Lilliehöökbreen, whose glacier front stretches nearly 7 kilometers, as well as the spectacular July 14 Glacier, famous for its cliffs teeming with seabirds and its exceptional Arctic vegetation.
This region, rich in history and biodiversity, is also an excellent spot for observing polar wildlife, with the chance to spot seals, seabirds, and—depending on conditions—whales swimming in the fjord’s waters.

Indeed, this 10-kilometer-long fjord,... see+ surrounded by alpine peaks, provided excellent shelter for the whalers who flocked here in the 17th century. Today, the shores are dotted with ruins that showcase the rich history of Svalbard. Madeleine Bay will serve as the point for a hike to the great glacier.

Magdalenafjord Smeerenburgfjorden
The Smeerenburg Fjord is known for the role it played in the history of Spitsbergen. In fact, a... see+ whaling station was established there in 1616 before being abandoned in 1660. Steep and almost inhospitable, the fjord’s shores are covered in ice, which prevents vegetation from growing but reveals spectacular landscapes.

On the southern coast stand the ruins of old 17th-century whaling stations, while on the northern coast you’ll find the remains of past mining attempts (zinc, gold, coal).
