Oslo
Your expedition begins in Oslo, the Norwegian capital perched on the edge of a fjord. If time... see+ allows, why not explore the city center at your leisure?

With its rich history and vibrant art scene, Oslo is a fascinating city. It offers museums, galleries, and remarkable architecture, including the majestic Opera House and the new Munch Museum.

Stroll through the Ekeberg Sculpture Park, visit the Akershus Fortress, or relax in a floating sauna. Explore the modern Sørenga district and enjoy its urban seaside vibe, or savor New Nordic cuisine before spending the night at a hotel near Oslo Airport.

Oslo Longyearbyen
After an early morning flight from Oslo, your adventure will begin with two nights in the world’s... see+ northernmost town. A colorful frontier settlement with more snowmobiles than people, Longyearbyen is a unique place on the edge of the Arctic wilderness.

You will spend the next two and a half days exploring Longyearbyen and its surroundings. The town is perfect for walking: stroll down the main street, where you might spot a wandering Svalbard reindeer. Don’t worry—while wild, these animals are curious and unafraid of humans.

To give you a better insight into the area, local guides will lead you on an electric bike tour, sharing the historical background of this town at the top of the world.

Longyearbyen
You will leave the city via a dirt road that will lead you to Hotellneset, where you will discover... see+ a lake and the remnants of the region’s mining past. The very first hotel in Svalbard was built by Richard With, the founder of Hurtigruten, even before the city we see today was established.

We will then return to Longyearbyen via the "Burma Road," an old major route for transporting coal from the port, offering a breathtaking view. Along the way, we will admire an old funicular, the Svalbard Church, and the ruins of the first city of Longyearbyen, bombed during World War II.

We will continue with the steep cliffs of Plateau Mountain, passing by the cemetery and the iconic Huset, a building that has housed a cinema, a bar, a school, and a church. We will then head to Coal Miners’ Cabins, which was originally the residence of miners, where we will enjoy a relaxed lunch before the end of our tour and return to the hotel.

Our activities will depend on the weather conditions in Hornsund and Bellsund. Your expedition team will determine the best exploration opportunities for the day.

North West National Park The ice edge
If the ice conditions allow, we will sail north and cross the 80th parallel to explore the ice edge... see+ and its ever-changing landscape. The transition zone between the ice cap and the sea is a magical and ephemeral place, with waters dotted with ice floes and drifting blocks of ice. From our ship, you may spot seals and walruses basking on the sparkling ice. If conditions permit, we will launch our expedition boats for an unforgettable experience close to the floating ice.
The ice edge is not a fixed boundary: it shifts with the seasons and weather, making this visit not guaranteed despite our attempts. In summer (from May to August), it retreats further toward the pole, possibly beyond our reach. In that case, we will explore the deep fjords, mighty glaciers, and enchanting landscapes of the Spitsbergen coast, which are equally impressive. Between late July and early August, wildflowers bloom, covering the landscape in a burst of color.

The ice edge Ny Alesund
Today, you discover the serenity of Ny-Ålesund and the surrounding fjords, including Krossfjord... see+ and Kongsfjord. Enjoy a real day of relaxation, as the proximity of the Norwegian Mapping Authority’s geodetic station forces us to turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Ny-Ålesund, one of the northernmost settlements in the world and a former mining town, was the starting point of Roald Amundsen’s expeditions to the north aboard his airship "Norge". It has now become an international center for scientific and climate research, but still retains traces of its past.

Exploring the fjords around Ny-Ålesund will immerse you in breathtaking icy landscapes. Adventure awaits, as we take every opportunity to launch our small expedition boats, disembark for a hike, or sail along the majestic glaciers.
