Set off on an excursion to discover Porto by night. Enjoy the beauty of one of Europe's oldest cities, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on a panoramic bus tour. World-renowned among wine lovers, Porto is beautifully situated at the mouth of the Rio Douro. Known... see+ as the "city of granite," its narrow streets wind between the hills and the meandering river. It has managed to preserve the riches of its commercial past. But Portugal's second city is also a young, welcoming city, the capital of a region that is both wine-growing and oceanic. You will of course stop to visit Sao Bento Station, famous for its azulejos. These ceramic tiles form large frescoes that narrate key moments in the city's past or depict traditional scenes from Portuguese life. Return to the coach. NOTES The order of visits may be changed. Times are given as a guide only.

Departure by coach to Porto city center. Visit to the Church of Saint Francis (interior), a pitch from the banks of the Douro River, one of Porto's most symbolic religious buildings. Drive to the Stock Exchange Palace (interior). Visit this magnificent... see+ 19th-century mansion located in the heart of the city's historic center, a marvel of neoclassical architecture steeped in history. The stock exchange was built in 1834 by the Porto Commercial Association, which still occupies it today. After climbing a beautiful staircase of carved granite and marble, visit the former commercial courtroom, the golden room, and the oval-shaped Arab salon, decorated with stained glass, arabesques, and wood carved to imitate Arabic stucco (a material that imitates marble). Then, you will visit an azulejos workshop. The magnificent azulejos tiles that you will see in Porto and throughout Portugal are the result of an art form that has a long history in the country and began during the Arab occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. Taking their name from the Arabic word "Zellige" - polished stone, the tiles and mosaics are painted and decorated with botanical, animal and historical motifs in shades of blue and white. A unique opportunity to discover this ancient art. Since 1988, the old town of Salamanca has been listed as a... see+ UNESCO World Heritage Site. The listed area, which follows the zoning of the Plan Especial de Protección y Reforma Interior (the equivalent of a French conservation area), covers most of the city as it existed until the mid-20th century. Since receiving this distinction, Salamanca has enjoyed growing success. You will visit its cathedral, whose successive extensions have created a mixture of styles ranging from late Gothic to Baroque and Renaissance. Then you will visit the university, which opened its doors in 1218, making it one of the oldest universities in the world. Also known as "Escuelas Mayores," the university building has a sumptuous portal carved with the city's most famous motif: a skull topped by a frog (the symbol of the sin of lust punished after death). From a glass-enclosed vestibule, you can admire the prodigious library, whose shelves are filled with manuscripts and publications dating back to before the 19th century. You will have lunch in a restaurant before enjoying some free time to stroll around the city. Return to the side of the boat at Vega de Teron. NOTES Bring good walking shoes.
