Rent a Comar sailboat
It was in 1961, in the Italian city of Forli, in Emilia-Romagna, that the company Sipla began its activities with the production of the Flying Junior in fiberglass. at the time, the use of plastic in shipbuilding was in its infancy, so much so that the brand resorted to a stratagem to introduce its prototype to the market. The hull of the prototype was painted a faux-bois brown to make it more likely to be approved by a validation agency. Ten years later, the shipyard, which had become a key player in the manufacture of high-performance sailing boats, changed its name to Comar Yachts.Today, the Italian manufacturer remains a benchmark in the production of luxury and racing sailboats. Developing the Comet Smart, Comet Sport and Comet Raised Saloon ranges, it offers boats with one hull ranging from 21 feet to 100 feet, some of which were designed by New Zealand naval architect Bruce Farr. Since 2015, Comar Yachts has been active in the pleasure multihull market. Its Comet 37 Cat, with a classic and pure design by Marc Lombard, was presented at the International Multihull Boat Show in La Grande Motte.A new era for ComarAfter the validation of its very first prototype, the shipyard produced more than 4,500 boats. But the big changes came after the birth of the Comet 910 in 1971. Designed by Finot and Van de Stadt, this new 9.10-meter boat was a true innovation and easily beat its competitors with larger vessels. Particularly stable, even in a rough sea, the Comet 910 easily won the 1971 Middle Sea Race. After this victory, the shipyard enjoyed great commercial success and several Comet 910s were built until 1987.Thanks to the success of the Comet 910, the company built new, more modern factories and made use of more advanced technologies. At the same time, the shipyard changed its old name Sipla to Comar. A name that would stand out over the years in the Italian and even European nautical world. Its factories now churned out revolutionary sailboats that quickly found buyers. Among the most famous are the Comet 801, the Comet 13 and the Comet 14, which stand out for their redesigned interior layout and their speed on the water. The Comet 14 has a large living area at the back and a particularly pleasant central cockpit. With Andrea Vallicelli, Finot and Doug Peterson at the mast top of the design team, Comar took first place among sailboat manufacturers in Italy in the 1980s. from 1989, with its 160 employees, the shipyard produced almost 145 more efficient, spacious and comfortable boats. at the same time, the Comet 333 sailboat was selected to participate in the first Giro d'Italia. Two new models came out of the Comar factories in the 90s: the Phoenix and the Genesi 43. Two fine achievements that were also very successful.
