The types of boats to rent in Saint-Malo

Depending on your budget and your sailing plans, there are different types of boats available:

  • Monohull sailboat charter: this is the most affordable option and is best suited to experienced sailors! The size of this type of boat will make it easier for you to access coves and anchorages. The sensations of sailing are also unique to monohulls with heeling over.
  • Motor yacht charter: more accessible and cheaper, this option is ideal for a day charter.

Services offered for your yacht charter in Saint-Malo

Here are the different services we offer for renting a boat in Saint-Malo:

  • Bareboat yacht charter: if a member of your crew has sailing experience, they will be able to manoeuvre the sailboat. The boat will be entirely private and you can enjoy your cruise in Saint-Malo with friends or family.
  • Yacht charter with skipper: this is the ideal option if no one can skipper the boat or if you want to enjoy a relaxing vacation. The professional skipper will take care of maneuvering the boat and you will benefit from his knowledge of the area to take you to the best anchorages and restaurants.
  • Crewed yacht charter: this type of service will be included on luxury yachts over 20 meters. It will be optional for a catamaran charter in Saint-Malo between 10 and 20 meters. A crew generally consists of a captain, a cook and a hostess. The crew will take great care of you and make sure you have an unforgettable cruise!

Where to sail in Saint-Malo?

  1. The Channel Islands: Located to the west of the Cotentin peninsula and about ten nautical miles from Saint-Malo, the Channel Islands offer a real change of scenery to its visitors. Under the English flag, the archipelago is made up of more than 1,000 islets and reefs, the main ones being Jersey and Guernsey.
  2. The Isles of Scilly: Located 30 miles from the southwestern point of Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly comprise just over 140 islands scattered between the English Channel andthe Atlantic. We strongly recommend renting a boat in the Channel to visit these isolated and tranquil lands in close-hauled to nature. Once there, don't miss the magnificent beaches of Pentle and Appletree Bays onthe island of Tresco, as well as the countless opportunities for cabotage in contact with nature and 3,000 years of history!
  3. The bay of Mont Saint-Michel: Located between Brittany and the Cotentin peninsula, the bay of Mont Saint-Michel is a must if you opt for a yacht charter in Saint-Malo! The bay has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 and offers a splendid natural setting with seals and dolphins and its magnificent abbey perched at the top of Mont Saint-Michel in sight. Be careful of the tides, however, so you don't pitch your sailboat into the bay!
  4. Pointe du Grouin: This rocky headland located at the northernmost tip of Cancale marks the entrance to the bay of Mont Saint-Michel and offers a magnificent panorama! Navigation can be dangerous when approaching the coast, hence the presence of the Pierre de Herpin lighthouse to alert approaching boats. It is also in the open sea off the Pointe du Grouin that the start of the famous Route du Rhum race is given every four years!

Average temperatures fluctuate from 9°C (January) to 22°C (July). The sea temperature varies from 9°C to 18°C. The rainiest months are: December, October and November. We recommend the months from May to September for visiting Saint-Malo.

What license do I need to rent a boat in Saint-Malo?

A boat license is compulsory in France if you wish to rent a motorboat. If you wish to rent a sailboat, you must prove that you have sufficient nautical experience, and you must therefore present a nautical CV that traces all your sailing experiences.

Practical advice for a successful yacht charter in Saint-Malo

  • Choose the right time: The climate is milder between May and September, the temperatures are warmer and the sea calmer. We therefore recommend that you leave during this period.
  • Find out about local regulations : Make sure you know the sailing rules in force in the Saint-Malo region before embarking. You will be asked for a nautical CV to prove your maritime experience.
  • Documents and formalities: If you are the skipper of the boat, make sure you have a boat license to present. In addition, we strongly advise you to take out damage waiver insurance even if you hire a skipper: in the event of damage to the boat, you are directly responsible, and damage waiver protects you from any unintentional damage.
