Jirnsum: the jewel of Holland
Are you familiar with Holland? It is known as the Land of Water, because it is nestled between a magnificent chain of lakes and the wonderful Wadden Sea. Straddling Pikmeer and Sneekermeer, Irnsum is clearly one of the must-see villages in the province of Friesland.
It's the perfect place to explore the green nature of Holland by veering off on a little foot or bike ride. Your hike will take you to the heart of its forests and pastures, which are adorned with magnificent colors, whatever the season.
But this walk will also allow you to admire the most beautiful architectural works in this part of Holland, such as the most famous dyke in Holland, the Afsluitdijk. It is surrounded on one side by the Wadden Sea and on the other by the Ijsselmeer. On the way to the dike, you can take the opportunity to immortalize the monument erected in honor of Cornelis Lely. The port of Harlingen, the village of Makkum, Stavoren and Hindeloopen are also well worth a visit.
A paradise for yachtsmen
Surrounded by the most beautiful Dutch lakes, the village of Jirnsum seems perfectly equipped to seduce boaters and lovers of nautical activities. Boat trips on the majestic, peaceful lakes are clearly one of the activities not to be missed.
But the Wadden Sea also has its share of surprises in store for vacationers. By renting a boat, you can sail on its sparkling waters and reach the surrounding islands with their splendid, secluded beaches. You will find charming anchorages there and can enjoy a pleasant swim with your family or your loved one.
And if you have a soft spot for boat races, head for the town of Sneek, the European capital of boat racing, where the final of the skûtsjesilen championship is organized every year.
