Yacht charter

Last updated on 8 April 2025

If you love these breathtaking landscapes overlooking an electric blue sea and if you particularly like its timelessly charming towns, Filovent warmly recommends yacht charter in Otranto.

A former merchant port of great importance, particularly in ancient times, the city of Otranto has played an important role in the history of Italy. Otranto, which belongs to the province of Lecce in the southeast of the country, has been invaded many times since Roman times. Byzantines, Normans and Turks all tried to make the city their own, given its geographical location, which is very favorable to maritime trade. Thus, many civilizations have left their mark on the city, giving it an authentic, medieval feel. The cathedral of Otranto is certainly the finest example of Baroque architecture. Built around the middle of the 11th century, it houses numerous relics belonging to the martyrs of Otranto.

From the sea, the landscape is equally interesting. Lovers of pleasure trips will certainly enjoy Otranto. With around ten kilometers of coastline, Otranto is adorned with a rocky landscape where the cliffs, falling sheer into an azure sea, inspire admiration and encourage you to take a catamaran cruise in Italy!

A journey through time

Nicknamed the White City with its whitewashed houses and narrow streets overlooking an azure sea, Otranto invites you to dream! It is especially appealing to history enthusiasts, who will find some remarkable architecture just around the corner of a hike.

Part of the Salento region and a cultural crossroads between the West and the East, Otranto jealously preserves traces of Turkish, Norman, Byzantine, Aragonese and Roman civilization. A vestige of the European Romanesque-Gothic style, its castle was built in the 15th century and, combined with the ramparts of the old town, immerses you in a medieval setting. A stroll along the coastline will allow you to admire the magnificent towers built in the 15th century to protect against invaders coming from the sea.

The beaches of Salento

For yachtsmen, the village of Otranto remains an essential point of departure for getting away from it all along the Adriatic coast or the Costa Ionica. The Adriatic coast is adorned with charming bays with crystal-clear water, such as Torre dell'Orso, a small paradise for surfers, who will find a pretty sandy beach there with a fascinating view of two white rocks known as the Two Sisters. A romantic getaway awaits you at Baia dei Turchi, a sand and pebble beach protected by high white cliffs plunging straight down into an azure sea. 25 km from Otranto, not far from the town of Roca Vecchia, you will find the Grotta della Poesia, a small cove carved into the rock that offers you a little tranquility.

Following the Ionian coast, you won't miss the famous beach of Marina di Pescoluse. This heavenly beach of fine white sand with clear, shallow water, proudly wearing the cap of the «Maldives» of Salento, has nothing to envy of the sandy rivers of the Caribbean.
