Kalkara Marina is like an exceptional city embellishing the great port of Malta. Its marina offers budding historians a privileged moment to discover historic buildings that alone tell the history of the region. Its splendid beaches will add a pleasant, salty note to your stay, not to mention the countless activities that await you there: visits to monuments, yacht charters at Kalkara Marina, walks, etc.
A small open-air museum
Kalkara Marina is located in the majestic Kalkara Bay, Malta's Grand Harbour. The pentagon-shaped Fort Rinella was built in the 19th century, during the reign of Queen Victoria, to strengthen Malta's fenders.
For history buffs, it remains a magnificent little open-air museum. Indeed, all around the town are monuments recounting its entire history, such as Fort Rinella, which houses the world's biggest cannon, weighing almost 100 tons and built by the British army. The latter was capable of launching a projectile weighing one masthead over 5 km away and of piercing 50 cm of armor! Your stopover will also give you the opportunity to visit the warehouses, where the huge ammunition is kept, and even to attend a short cannon loading course! Don't miss the museum either, nestled in the fort, with military costumes and period furniture. With a bit of luck, you'll have the opportunity to fire the rifle used by Victorian-era soldiers.
A complete change of scenery!
Don't miss a stroll through the streets of Kalkara to fully experience a moment of change of scenery with its cubic houses, terraces, and streets deserted in the heat of the day. Have fun discovering the names of the houses, which often evoke the family or religious devotion through painted ceramic plaques with representations of religious figures. You can also enjoy the enchanting Kalkara Bay with its gentle breezes that bring happiness and relaxation. There's nothing better than a yacht charter in Malta, a swim and a little dive to round off your stay.
