Located a few kilometers from the coast of Croatia, the port city of Herceg Novi is home to some vestiges of ancient civilizations that you can admire during a long walk through the city. Inhabited since Roman times, Herceg Novi still has some ruins of the towers and fortresses dating from the Ottoman invasion. Among the must-sees are the Clock Tower and the Forte Mare fortress, built during the reign of King Tvrtko. A number of old Venetian palaces also embellish the city's cobblestone streets.
Herceg Novi also seems to be an excellent point of departure for yachtsmen and sailing enthusiasts. Following the coastline, you can easily reach a few small pebble beaches or swim not far from private beaches. Leaving the port, you can also go as far as the famous Bay of Kotor or reach the shores of the charming town of Iaglo, renowned for its thalassotherapy center.
Herceg Novi Riviera
Locatedabout fifty kilometers from Dubrovnik, Herceg Novi is distinguished by its 25 km Riviera, where charming fishing villages follow one another, with delightful sand and pebble beaches that invite you to relax. By boat, you can reach beaches such as the Royal Beach, a small private sandy beach located 4 km from the seaside resort, or Njivice Beach, a public beach made up of sand and rocks located in the neighborhood of the same name. Sailing west, you will reach Sutorina, where a large public beach awaits you, renowned for its therapeutic mud.
But the most attractive beaches of Herceg Novi are undoubtedly those of Zanjic and Miriste. Zanjic beach is 300 meters long and is adorned with white pebbles lapped by an azure sea that will certainly remind you of the most beautiful Mediterranean landscapes. For pleasure boaters, it will be an excellent point of departure for reaching the Blue Grotto and the island of Mamula, where an old Austrian fortress stands. Miriste beach lies between the adjustment of course and speed of the same name and the Zanjic valley. It attracts vacationers with its sandy river and olive forest, ideal for hiking.
A seaside stroll and a swim await you at Igalo beach. Measuring 1,500 meters, this large sandy beach is also home to numerous restaurants where you can sample some local fish specialties. Glide peacefully through the Bay of Kotor by boat or kayak to the village of Rose, where you can veer off for swimming, fishing and scuba diving. Your kayak trip will take you to the wreck of an old fishing boat. You can also take the opportunity to explore the Luštica peninsula by boat.
